The majority of people are only mildly interested in music. They view music a casual distraction, something to listen to in the background of their mundane existence, watching FATBALL, drinking beer, and trying to get laid.

Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Sepultura, Nuclear Assault, ect... were great entry bands into the metal world in the late 80s/early 90s for me. Enjoyed all of it back in the day. I quickly moved on to death metal after discovering Obituary.

Question for Justin: What's your opinion on the topic of gateway bands or albums that can get people into Death Metal? For example if someone were to come up to you and wanted you to give them 6 Death Metal albums to get into the genre of Death Metal what albums would you pick? Would you pick stuff you thought were some of the best? Or would you pick albums that were more accessible and that could ease them into the genre to prepare them for stuff even more intense in Death Metal? For example if you were to show me Mortician, Autopsy, Impetigo, or Pungent Stench during my novice days of trying to get into Death Metal I would have completely disregarded Death Metal altogether. However luckily the bands that I first discovered was Cannibal Corpse with their album "The Bleeding", then after that Obituary with "Cause of Death", and then Morbid Angel's "Altars of Madness". I then dived deeper into the genre and discovered all of the other legendary bands like Dismember, Unleashed, Entombed, Autopsy, Immolation, Suffocation etc. along with the more obscure bands like Massacra, Thanatos, Deadhead, Centinex, etc. It was a domino effect that spiraled out of control. I think that gateway bands have their place in the genre for example even bands I don't care for like Opeth which I have heard many people say they helped them get into Death Metal I can understand how they can be a gateway band for many people even if what they're playing is more Progressive Metal with some elements of Death Metal. If I were to recommend 6 albums for a novice to start with I would pick Entombed "Left Hand Path", Dismember "Like an Everflowing Stream", Morbid Angel "Altars of Madness", Pestilence "Consuming Impulse", Cannibal Corpse "The Bleeding", and Immolation "Dawn of Possession". I picked these because they are classics in the genre that have stood the test of time and I think that they are pretty easy to get into as when I heard all of these albums during my novice days I immediately loved them upon first listen. What are your thoughts?

One band I would say is worth a shot to check out called Putrid Evil. Good grinds Death Metal. Vocals don't sound 'cookie cutter' for the genre but fits the bill. Plus the EP is just maybe 12 minutes. So you don't lose out on that much time.

One out of 100 people probably know slaughter lord the rest hit or miss if there was no commercial push that’s what it comes down too, but I don’t care what everyone else knows or doesn’t people care to much about being in the know in metal. Who gives a shit listen to what you want and that’s it.

For probably the 5th time now: "Holy Wars" and "Take No Prisoners" are great. I like Voivod (Mustaine doesn't know who they are btw or didn't during an interview once) better but Mustaine's use of the major and minor third as opposed to just fifths and the like (power "chords" i.e. Metallica) puts him at the top of the "big four" for me. Could still EASILY live without Megadeth but as far as mainstream thrash goes, rating them within their class, they're a good act. Only complaint is nowadays they use amp modeling live. Most non musician "elistists" don't like megadeth cause they don't understand shit. To me since you have a weak culture on true classic/power heavy metal of the 80's and all the obscure bands from that era (no glam) and you only know about the most famous bands of that time like maiden, diamond etc, you're the poser.
