Jackie does do his own stunts, that's when they take the close up shots. Like Rumble in the Bronx. He does the money shot, then the stunt double does the other takes. Editing wise, he's in the beginning and end of the shot, but the wide shot they used in the middle was the stunt double doing it(probably needed multiple takes to keep the close up cameras out of the shot). Production wise, if you already have the shots you need, you don't risk throwing your lead actor off of a building again. That's why they wouldn't let him do it again for the wide shot. Jackie also uses a, "stunt double," for casual driving and walking reshoots. As a producer, once you have the shots you need, you don't want to keep paying someone millions of dollars to have them on set for another day just to get the back of their head to show up on camera for 5 more seconds

I never know why people like Jackie Chan and Jet Li are called "fake" when they are clearly champions of their field. You can put together a fight scene in Hollywood and make it look fantastic and it still doesn't come close to the obvious prowess guys like these have. Not to mention imagine doing something as rigorous as a fight scene where it's filmed in a long take so you can see their genuine talent, and how exhausting that would be. Now imagine doing that take after take after take until it's perfect, and tell me who is fake after something as impressive as that.

They are not professional fighters but they would be a problem for the average person to confront in a street fight. Adding some clarifications here; 1. Jackie did do the jump in Rumble in the Bronx. Fully. However Stanley Tong (and I read years ago possibly one another stuntman) did the stunt first as a trial run. Ken MacIntyre was a stuntman in the film and he says that Stanley did the jump first, and then Jackie did the jump unharnessed in one take. So when Jackie says its him at the start and end, it means that his take was used for those shots. The middle part of the jump they used another stuntman whose jump probably looked better. 2. In the 80's, Mars was the lead stuntman for Jackie's team. He'd be the one doing the biggest falls, and he definitely doubled Jackie when the guy kicks open the clocktower in Project A. Also from that film, he doubles Jackie in one of the bicycle stunts. 3. But Jackie very definitely did the clocktower falls. Its infamous in the HK stunt world, and if he had faked it then word would have spread around FAST. In his biography, I think Jackie mentions he did the fall 3 times. However, its almost certain that a stuntman or two did trial runs as well. Most likely that stunman would've been Mars. Whether those are the ones shown in the film is debatable. 4. As you point out, strange things happen to people's faces when in motion. Just record yourself running around or throwing a kick and look at screenshots of the video. You'll look like a different person. So its not fair to use this criteria against Jackie. 5. On the flipside, Jackie very definitely used doubles and wires. They were used infrequently, but definitely used. He even says so in his 1998 documentary about wire-usage and showed examples from his films so that point was not a secret. 6. The ironic thing about the documentary is that like Jackie, it oversells its claims. Jackie clearly is doubled. But it then uses instances where its clearly Jackie taking the hit (Armour of God , Supercop etc).

Honestly, I think the actual truth is that he does make his own stunts, but for re-shoots he uses his stunt team to cover angles and stuff. Like he has a scene he falls out of a window and tries to stop the fall by grabbing things, but one of the shots many not have the angle he liked so he might use one of the stunt doubles who can replicate the scene so they save time during production instead of doing the dangerous stunt again after he already is experiencing wear and tear, a new "fresh and strong body" so to speak so production doesn´t get halted by him getting too injured to continue filming. I mean, his stunt team needs to get paid too. It wouldn´t surprise me too if he uses other stuntmen during the coordination of the stunts to see how they work in real life before he does them himself to cover all of the basics. But hey, that´s just what I think.

Filming back in the day used to be immensely expensive. And the film business in Hong Kong used to make films as fast as they could be done with for a quick turn-around. Jackie Chan did in fact do all of the stunts. As the golden goose and employer of his stunt team, he did all the stunts once for facial capture and had his body doubles re-do them to get additional footage for different angles that can be used for the film. That's mainly it. This way they minimize his chances of additional injuries, making it so he stay healthy enough to make more films, thereby continuing to employ his stunt team. This is what I was told by a friend that used to know one of Jackie Chan's lookalike stunt man from his stunt team. Jackie Chan used to make some of them drink with him all night long in order to get away from his wife when she complained, which in doing so, made the stunt man's wife mad.

Something interesting I remember hearing once was that the only time Jackie Chan does have someone as a stuntman is for mundane things like driving a car normally or calmly walking. Apparently this is because he maintains a very tight schedule so he can only spend so much time on things, which he spends on the stunts and fight scenes. If true, that's just hilarious and awesome at the same time. Either way, I will always love his work and he will always be a legend. I agree entirely that when it comes to why I like him it's almost entirely about his fight scenes. However, there is a third reason why I enjoy his movies: it's his capability for humorous roles and even more so for his dramatic performances. He is actually really good at drama, and my favorite example of this is a movie called, "Little Big Soldier." If you haven't seen it or heard of it, give it a watch. It's basically all of Jackie's humor and serious acting rolled into one performance. When I was a kid I grew up on what I like to call The Big Three: Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li. I have a lot of respect and love for Donnie Yen as well, but I didn't know his work or recognize him consistently in films until I was well into my teens, maybe even early twenties. I will always hold a special place in my heart for Jackie, who was also my very first personal hero. He was the first example as to why I wanted to get into martial arts. I wanted to be capable like him, but even more so I wanted to be kind, mentally strong, and disciplined in everything I do in life. Despite the rough road it's been for me in life so far, things are finally starting to fall into place as soon I will be teaching martial arts like I've always wanted to despite battling my own disabilities the whole way. I wouldn't have been strong enough in any sense of the word to even pursue my goal if it wasn't for what I learned from watching Jackie.

The script called for a leap from the top of a parking lot to a fire escape on the floor below on the building across the street. As is his custom, director Stanley Tong attempted the stunt before asking any actors to do so. He tried it with the help of a cable harness, but quickly decided it would be safer without the harness. The landing point was not visible from the point where the jump began, so tape was placed on the take-off point as a guide. The jump was completed perfectly by Jackie Chan on the first attempt, doing his own stunts as is his custom. The jump was captured by four cameras.

The only reason Jackie can ever do his own stunts is cause like time cruise he owns the companies making the movie. He literally had to create a special health insurance for stuntmen cause no one would insure him. So he had to be hurt a lot if no one wanted him getting health insurance. Also no matter how good you are eventually you encounter something you can't do physically.

Jackie is incredibly famous so a piece like this was bound to come out. It's unfortunate that a lot of the work seems to be absolute conjecture. Personally I would have no problem believing that the team helped build the legend and accepted less or often no credit. That's absolutely a common situation all over the world. Exposing the truth to the world and getting those involved more credit would be great but the work has to be credible. Hopefully someone will do a better job of this someday and focus more on celebrating the team as opposed to taking Jackie down. Not that anyone could really hurt Jackie at this point, he's rich, famous and absolutely the premier film stunt fight performer of multiple generations.

The most obvious solution is that doubles film stunt test, then Jackie does it. The editing team then puts the film together from all the various takes, trying to make it look as smooth as possible.

Jackie has used a lot of stunt doubles but you can see them better in films like dragons forever for the end scene fight with Bennie the jet and plenty other films , he mostly used them when he was injured or if he was filming another movie at the same time or if it was too high risk in the Hollywood films. In his film, ( Who Am I ) , He had loads of stunt doubles for a lot of the fight scenes, copy this video title below to see it. This vid is made by one of the actors / Martial artist from the movie , he did an interview on Jackie and his stunt doubles on set. The fighters name is , Ron Smoorenburg JACKIE CHAN MY STUNTS II -Who am I ? - Who had more doubles? the Taekwondo kicker or JC - BREAKDOWN Overall i still love and watch the classic Jackie films with the fast passed fight choro and action especially in police story 1&2 , wheels On Meals and the lucky stars.

Yeah that was done by legendary Chinese stuntman and actor Yuen Wah, Jet Li was doubled by actor and stuntman Xiong Xin Xin in many of his films from the 90s especially the Once Upon a Time in China films since Jet broke his ankle in one of the fight scenes.....stunt doubles have always been involved in films since the beginning of film history, it's what they get paid for...not our fault u still want to live in some strange fantasy....need I remind you that Jackie started his career as a stuntman in Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury and Enter the Dragon films....when Bruce fly kicks the Japanese villain at the end of First of Fury, that was Jackie that went flying through the window

He has called himself "a fighter who can act" except only reason the fight scenes always look so good is because of other people , he just swings around (lot of Chinese rich guys who want to get into cinema do the same now) . I did not notice it as a kid but he never really punches or kicks even though when people from his stunt team show up in his movie or their own movies they do that . Okay let's be real for a moment. Jackie Chan is a name, an actor, a choreographer and a star to a studio. Of course they don't want him to do his own stunts. If he gets hurt production stops, time is money, a movie may be canceled if the injury is severe enough. As an investor I'm putting millions of dollars on the line here, there is no way I want my star doing actually dangerous stuff that may swallow my investment. As an investor I'm going to be making some demands, one of them will be that the main star of the movie will be adequately safe, and use the safety means available to them at all times. No way am I investing in a production where there is a good chance it never finishes because the main character can seriously injure himself doing a job that could be left to someone who's specifically paid to take that risk.

High winds can move the skin on the face in ways you think it couldn't which can heavily distort a persons face. This video may show A BIT of evidence, but it's almost always reaching. I think Rantons theory is far more accurate, it was a PR thing that was oversold.

I think Jackie Chan might've gotten a big head by saying he does ALL his stunts but much rather should've been said he does MOST of it. However, just like how Japan with their anime they always say "the best in the world" in their title it doesn't truly mean it's "the best". But this video shouldn't discredit Chan's legacy still he STILL does more than most Hollywood people. I don't even know why this video was made (not Ranton but the one he's viewing) since it feels more nitpicky and reaching to me tbh.

In Hong Kong Movie Industry, a lot of people knew “Project A” killed multiple stuntmans. On the tower scene, they use stuntman’s life to test is that work. They told the stuntman if you don’t jump from there, you are garbage. So you have the second, third and fourth stunt trial … several stuntman killed in the film. But Jackie didn’t give any honour to them and claims all done by himself. He not deserve the Oscar.
