You step into New Home, having just downed Mettaton NEO in a single, disappointing shot. Come to think of it, that's been the tune of this entire run since you killed Undying: Monsters go down with barely any fight anymore. No matter how much they brace themselves, flaunt their power, and tell you you're done for, they all go down in one or two hits, and can barely scratch your now massive HP pool. It's honestly starting to get boring. However, this changes when you step into New Home and come across someone you didn't really expect to see again. Was that Sans, standing past the padlock to the basement? He'd said in Snowdin that if you'd continued your path, you'd have a bad time. But this was just Sans. He had no armor, nothing indicating he was really any good at fighting nor any other indicator of great strength. Only really good for jokes: his brother seemed far stronger, and he'd died in one hit! The short skeleton asked you a question, about if you believed the worst person could change. At first, you'd have stopped, pondered the question for real, but the mass killing you'd gone through meant that you barely cared about being thought of a villain anymore. A single step forward. However, he then echoed his earlier threat: Asking you if you wanted to have 'a bad time'. Was he going to try and fight you after all? Nevertheless, another step forward. He apologizes to an 'old lady' - Toriel, perhaps? - about this being why he never makes promises. The battle is engaged. He comments on the weather being beautiful, the birds singing and the flowers blooming, a strange sentiment given the location. Then, he declares that on such beautiful days, kids like you should be burning in Hell. Immediately, he throws you into the most difficult individual attack you've faced before, taking a massive amount of damage from the strange purple poison effect and how it seems to skip your invincibility frames. You react fast, faster than most would, but despite this you're left at the end of the pattern with the barest sliver of HP left. Then, he comments that he always wondered why people never used their strongest attack first. Immediately, you're terrified. Undyne the Undying was hard, but she was at least *fair*. This? As a theme you've never heard before fades in, you come to a realization: this was something else. Fearful of the coming 'bad time', you consider going for your ITEMs for a moment... but change your mind, deciding to attack instead in the hopes of ending this quickly, like with Muffer. You attack well, and the Empty Gun's shot ends up being a critical hit - but Sans slides to the left, dodging it!?- Then, he suddenly drops, falling down the left of the screen, past the railing and down the stairs. The battle theme rapidly and frantically speeds up as you overhear damage sounds getting faster and faster as he picks up speed - before a final CRASH echoes around the arena. Then, a monster dust sound effect, and your LV increases, just like that, to 20. As you exit the battle, you can't help but feel disappointed again.

Just imagine, you’re playing Megalovania for Sans the Skeleton, and all of a sudden, he thinks it would be funny to lead you and the rest of your band down a flight of stairs.
