wow, I wasn't sure where he was going with the dark teal. Then as he worked along it just became so exquisite that it hurts the eyes to imagine that it is just paint. It almost looks like plaster on canvis. Does anyone else think so? You know the pieces that are plaster and gold etched, but are 3D not on canvas? SO beautiful.

Yeah like Bas Relief? The depth is just so great in his shading.

Love this! I see more by "watching" you move the brushes, their size and angle that I don't see in print/book. (I do have the ebook. I also like watching you make various, necessary adjustments to painting. I learn from everything no matter how small or big! This is marvelous and I would purchase a video of this portrait process using oils! Please let me know when it will be available. I want it! :)

Hello... What a great artist you are!!!!!! I love so much what you do!!! Only two question: which medium thinner do you use to prepare your canvas (I think you use canvas already industrially prepared) at the start first video with burnt umber + burnt sienna ? I followed your number two and number three . At the start of your number two video you say " one the painting is completely dry I start adding.... " " first I add a thin layer of sap green " - and this is my second question: which medium do you use in this layer and all the other layers below?? I a appreciate your work and I need to know the most important thing to me: the correct use of the various medium and how use them. I thank you in advance for your kind reply that I know will come to me. Thanks very very much

You do such amazing work, it is simply beautiful! I am curious how do you decide weather to do a green under painting or bluish?
@tutu84824 жыл бұрын
Karen Murphy it ends up same thing, green and blue is exactly the same
@theagespot97174 жыл бұрын
The bluish value is 'usually' a darker value, and may adjust the skin tone a bit more. So it more or less depends on how you want the finished painting to look. I would think that, since oil paint is often not opaque, the underpainting tone would also affect the final skin tone to a small degree. Think about a green screen versus a blue screen in filming and video recording. The green screen blends better than the blue because blue is a primary color, while green is a secondary or tertiary color. The green will blend better and be more understated in theory. I think maybe I'd personally use a blue tone for a dark skinned person and green for a paler person, but that's just me.

Hi, Cuong Nguyen! How are you? Is there a Portuguese or Spanish version for all your ebooks? Thank you!
@brendankendrick7 жыл бұрын
this is awesome! are you using any thinner or medium in the process of this under painting?
@CuongNguyenArt7 жыл бұрын
Yes, for underpainting, I use a combination of 3/4 of turpentine + 1/4 of linseed oil.
@brendankendrick7 жыл бұрын
is that mixture also used with the burnt umber+ burnt sienna portion? do you switch when applying the color on top? thanks for the speedy reply i bought your e-books for pastel portraiture and its helped a ton
@CuongNguyenArt7 жыл бұрын
For sketching I use just turpentine. This stage the drawing need to dry fast. It's important to understand the "fat over lean" rule. I have it on my ebook. Thanks for asking.

What did you use for the ground shade? Was it burnt umber?
@sketchartist19644 жыл бұрын
Not sure I can understand why some realist artists use such small brushes to fill large areas? I've always heard that we should use large brushes to get that ''big look" we see in painters like Sargent.

Coung what do you use for dilute a oil?

I suspect that you were doing it straight from imagination, without the model. Then you are even more outstanding an artist than it might look.

Great! How long does it take for this burnt umber drawing to dry in order to get to the next stage? Thank you! :)
@WatchNoorPaint4 жыл бұрын
Till it's completely dry to touch. The drying time would depend on the type of medium you use. It usually takes just a few minutes to dry. Hope it helps :)

this is oil paint, for me it takes 1 day to completely dry a thin layer of paint. but you can mix something in it so it would dry faster

May I know how did that Burnt Umber + Ivory Black + Yellow Ochre and white became somewhat blue green for the skin? Coz I tried mixing the same but the result is different when I tried on my canvas? Btw, thank you for sharing! Hope you'd answer my concern.
@mavicityrelayson29245 жыл бұрын
maybe it's to do with the background. it will look different when placed on white canvas versus against the burnt umber background on the painting.
@BertoPutik5 жыл бұрын
Mavicity Relayson but my underpaint's color is burnt umber too. I hope I can figure it out.
