If the interior fan on your Renault Megane Mk2 (2002-2009) is not working, the most likely cause is a burnt out heater resistor. This video shows how to locate and replace it.

Thanks for the video. Replaced my heater resistor unit today as it had a intermittent problem. This video saved me bags if time. Brand new unit cost about £18 from local Euro Car Parts centre and a couple of hours to fit.. I gave fan motor unit a bit of a clean at same time. Now works fine. Thanks again.

@@iofix mines the same but 4 works 1-3 dont i new its the resistor as ive had the issue on 2 other cars a vx and a pug but wasnt sure where on a ren im glad ive not got clio they are alot harder

Thanks a lot! My wife was so angry and wanted to change the car because of that fan. I did not want to spend much money on the 15 year old car as it has many other problems. I managed to change the whole piece, however I found difficult to remove the top part of it. It is only by looking at the new piece and feeling the various cables and bits under the dashboard that I understood. It is a great video

Dear sir.I am so pleased I found your video.a superb presentation.very clearly spoken,methodical,and thorough. I am in the process of trying to change the brake light switch on my good friends ,2005 Renault scenic.I coudnt have asked for a better view and explanation. I know this video is actually for the heater resistor block.but am made up non the less.I got a birds eye view of the brake light switch.thankyou loads Ste.keep the great work and videos.

Really glad you liked the video thanks, but I think the brake light switch is on the brake pedal - so i think you might be slightly mistaken there - good luck with it anyway though.

Thanks to your clear, easy to follow instructions the job cost me £ 8.50 ( for a heat resistor off flea bay ) instead of £ 240 at my local garage . Thank you and have this drink on me 🍺 P.S. the fan was not working on settings 1 and 2 .

Had an intermittent fan issue and now seems to have given up entirely (it was working on setting 3 for a few days): is it likely to be the resistor or the fan?

I have a renault twingo 2011 , would the heater be in the same place ? I can't find anywhere that shows me , my heater and cold air does not work at all ( after weeks of it making a funny crunchy noise) Slamming the door worked for a while but now I think ita finally dead , any help ? Much appreciated

Also have you any idea on why a sunroof would stop working? I'm hoping not a burnt out motor and all fuses seem fine, can't find the needle ends for my test meter though

How long it would take for a professional worker to change the heater fan and the resistor for that car ? For my car they say it took 3 hours

Hi, thanks for the comment - glad to hear this helped. Leak fix??? I would say partially, before it was pooling up in the door pocket and very wet in the footwell bin. Now, quite a few months on, door pocket is always completely dry, buy footwell bin still a bit damp - I think there is still a bit of moisture getting in here from somewhere - I will do a vid explaining if I manage to figure out & fix. Cheers.

Not sure if it's same on clio but on the older megane, when the scuttle grill passages get blocked the water collects and starts over filling

@@iofix its the Drain Cover at the bottom of the Windscreen...disconnect the Wipers remove the Drainage and clean the drainage holes out it will be full of gunk and junk then give the holes a good blast with a Hose. Hope that Helps

Hi ... I have a similar problem.... So today I ( with help from my son Stephen ) removed the resistor and looked at the the terminals on the block connector, all where good and no sign of melting plastic. Stephen checked the little resistor that sits at the end of the green stuff ( sorry not sounding very professional ) and it allowed power through, does this mean resister pack is ok ? Question :- How do I know/check the resistor is at fault before I purchase a new one ?

Hello, just to clarify I am not an auto electrician so please don't take what I say as gospel, but my understanding is that the 'heater resistor' is actually made up of three resistors, and there should be continuity across all 3. I think one way this could be checked is to check for continuity from pins 1 to 4 on the connector. Hope that helps.

@@iofix We decided to pass on the 'heater resistor' and took the fan it's self out, with the fan out my son checked the 2 pinned plug that goes into the top ( Black and Red wires ) and the ends were covered in carbon, he cleaned them off put plug back in, turned fan on via the fan speed control switch and with fan in hands( firmly ) and it worked ... Put it all back together and it seems to be fine for now..... Thanks for sharing ... 10/10

Hi IoFix, I have a problem with my car alarm going off when I lock it.. It only happens in the winter (presumably when we have heavy rains), do you have any advice, or perhaps a video to help rectify. Just to add, every winter I additionally notice my rear lights going into 'disco mode' I've preciously found burnt out connectors, but wondering if there's a deeper issue that causes it to reoccur when it rains. I'm quite handy so as long as I can watch videos like this I can cope with ordering parts and fixing. Grateful for your videos and any further advice you may have for my megane 2 issues, thanks! 😊

Hi, sorry for the slight delay in getting back to u, I don't know much about the alarm system I'm afraid. Is your car a Scenic? - If so u might want to check the wiring connectors in the rear footwells.

@@iofix interestingly it's not a scenic, however I do recall couple of years back or so the rear drivers side footwell and under the chair being soaked. I wonder then if scenics and hatchback meganes are not too dissimilar with their wiring. I appreciate your response, and if you ever come across this problem and have a solution please do post! I am one of the many frustrated megane drivers, loving our cars but hating certain issues like with the electrics and water coming in, which makes them awful to drive in the winter! @@crackpea You're welcome re getting back to you. The Scenics have electrical connections in the rear footwells that suffer with corrosion due to dampness etc and cause all sorts of problems, but as far as I'm aware the hatchbacks do not have those connectors there. Good luck with sorting it out, if I come accross any further info I'll let u know.

where does the red and black lead go to? I can't seem to trace it... do I need to cut and solder it on?

If u mean some of ur leads have come of the connector; I would suggest getting a replacement 2nd hand connector & soldering on with the lead colours matched up.

My Megane 2 blower works on positions 1, 2 and 3, but is dead on 4 (maximum). Any idea of cause? Have Haynes manual, but it's missing information. I understand there are some relays but they are not on the wiring diagram. Haynes wiring diagram only shows the resistor pack. What do the relays do?

Hi, based on what you say, I would say this is very likely to be either the resistor or the connector to it - as discussed in this video. I do not believe there are any relays involved in the interior fan control. Good luck! :)

@@iofix thanks. Someone on Renault forum said on full speed the motor takes 14.5 amps. Does this all go through the rotary fan speed control switch? Only reason I can think for relay is to reduce risk of the switch melting. Will be dismantling next week .!

No problem. Yes my understanding of how it works is that it does all go through the fan control switch on the dash.

@@iofix ok thanks. Can check switch by measuring resistance of violet wire to ground in position 4. I think this should be shorted. Then test resistor pack loop-throughs by measuring violet to black and yellow to yellow.

Mine stopped working but in stages, at first the lowest power wouldn't work then the next lowest until none worked, would you say the resistor would still be the issue?

Are u getting power & ground to the motor? I would check for power & ground at the motor side of the connector using and incandescent test light (or say a headlight bulb - careful don't burn urself!). If it lights then it's probably bad motor.
