tip for hot weather, shower with warm or hot water not cold!! cold water makes your botdy work extra hard to heat your skin, tires you out and makes it feel hotter, warm water avoids this and hot water makes it so your skins cools instead, so this helps when its really hot at night and you cant sleep
@Lisatheecologist
@Lisatheecologist Жыл бұрын
you should look into getting a floor AC unit that you can plug in. its only gonna get hotter and if you can save up and get the accommodation for yourself it will be worth it. if not a dehumidifier and a fan are really helpful. you could also build a swamp cooler which is basically a box fan and a cooler full of ice. take it slow and don't worry about that the norm is to struggle for the heat and do what you need to do

A fan can indeed make a huge difference. I got a big standing one years ago and just take it with me from room to room if gets really hot. And it creates consistent noise which can be a blessing in the night when having the windows open and needing to drown out outside noises. I didn't know about the swamp cooler. If it gets really bad I take a wash cloth or small towel, wet it and put it on my head or in my neck.

Hey Megan. I haven't commented on your videos before, and am a very casual viewer. But I just felt the need to say given your commentary on the last few videos, and this included, I really appreciate any and all content you are creating, and respect whatever time you need off from KZfaq as well, considering. Your videos have been very helpful for me in the last few months, for many reasons through graduation and just general knowledge and inspiration for journaling and stimming, etc. Recently, my anxiety has been giving me a lot of struggles and it's been hard to be by myself, so your attic archives and the journal with mes are very good to just fall asleep to or keep me company throughout the day. Thank you for all you do and your hard work! Please take your time and again, appreciate everything.

I’m normally quite the lurking watcher, but I wanted to pop by and say that I love your long videos. I find listening to your thoughts very relatable and the overall vibe is very relaxing. The struggle with the heat is real. As someone who struggles with chronic fatigue and living in Texas the heat absolutely sucks what little energy out of me and it’s miserable. I also think the big sad about your blackout curtains is that your room is already hot so when you close then they’re trapping that heat in your space. Maybe something you could look into this an evaporative fan, where you put ice and water in it, so it could help maybe during filming sessions, or just in general for shortish stints. Also absolutely in LOVE with your custom pages. I want to use them so badly but I don’t have a printer which is very unfortunate. Thank you for continuing to show up for us! I’m always looking forward to gloomy vids 🖤

Hi Megan! Love your videos ❤ About storing your pages, I suggest getting those frosted cover binders rather than the transparent ones. The transparent soft ones tend to attract mold and dirt a lot. It also kinda melts in hot weather which makes it sticky through time. The frosted ones are like hard plastic ones that hold out longer and store pages neater hehe. ❤
@MeganRhiannon

i have a frosted one actually! not pvc or anything. i wasn’t very clear in the video 🥲 i’ve heard people talk about the pvc wallets sticking together inside the binders so i was wary of it when looking for storage options! hadn’t considered mould though 😥

We've been seeing similar heat here in Germany the past few years. We also have multiple rooms in the "attic" and curtains won't do you much good. We have gotten semi-reflective foil for the window panes which seems to help quite well.

yeah! i’ve looked at the filofax ones but i thought it might be annoying that you’re not able to turn the pages (?) only lift them up and down, because they’re prongs rather than rings. but if i organised them in a box with clips it would be the same, so i might have overthought that a bit 💭

My art space is in our attic and I physically can't be up there right now, it's absolute misery and I am dying 🙃 Also any videos you make are lovely, but please don't shy away from long ones! Im in the US, but also lived most of my life in incredible heat with only fans. Blackout curtains do help, but black actually attracts and holds sunlight. Find some reflective surface (we always used panels of insulation, the shiny metal colored plastic kind, we get it in rolls from the hardware store, but tin foil will work in a pinch), and fit them in behind the curtains. It reflects the light, it makes a HUGE difference.

I was rewatching this with audio this time around and heard you mention the heat; imo the blackout curtains (esp if they’re thick) are just going to trap the heat inside the room and indeed make it worse. When the weather is hot, it’s important to prioritize ventilation and let the breeze in because if your windows are closed the room is *going* to cook you. The lighter the curtains the better (as long as they keep the rays of the sun out). I live in the SEA and the heat here this month is similarly awful

Haha it was very awkward listening to you read my comment. Thank you for answering. 😅 Dividing things (even journal entries) by topics is an interesting idea. Also what you said about blank back of the pages. If I journaled in a filofax, I think I'd get these bookbinding rings to store the loose paper sheets, and make covers for each month. Or even tie them with ribbons or strings. I'm looking forward to that video about how you use your filofax. 😊 I keep looking for The System too and I can relate to the autistic thing. 🙈 Edit: YES, that's what I mean, it's annoying to have really personal journal entries in the back of commonplace ones, especially if they're unrelated.

A bit late bot black out for Windows has to be on the outside to keep the heat out, because otherwise its reflecting the heat back to the window glass heating it up even more or trapping the heat between the curtain and the window, also heating up the room

Blackout curtains are no good in the heat. Get some lace curtains. I have lots of experience from living in Australia 😅 it’s 30c on a cool day in summer here in QLD and then imagine in winter, it’s just a nice day for you. 5-15c. We survive with rotating fans or water coolers, air conditioning & shorts/singlets. You got this girl, just try your best. Hello! I am late to this video! However, you spent, like, five minutes on the topic of "it's too hot", and I have some suggestions! First: point your fan out of the window, a few feet back - it will pull the hot air out. Don't put it right at the window, though. That'll do absolutely nothing. Also! You can put a bowl of ice in front of your fan, and it will blow cooler air. These are two separate tips, mind you. Don't want to blow the cool air out of your room. Also, you can throw some slightly misted towels in the freezer in some freeze-safe ziplocs, so that you can put them on your wrist/the back of your neck when it gets really, really unbearable. I've heard that fruit juice tends to help more with dehydration than straight up water in unbearable heat, but even just water will help. Keep yourself extra hydrated!! It has been way hotter in your neck of the woods than usual. Also, I think blackout curtains do usually help with heat, it might just have gotten hotter after you got them. Keep yourself safe!!

I use archival boxes of a kind the national achieve use. They do not change stylewise over time and are in classic brown cardboard shade - they can fade naturally when exposed to light. They are made in acid free paper and is made to store paper over decades. They come flat so you have to fold them but it makes it easier to get a couple and fold them when I need them. I don't want to overstep or anything, so if you don't want health advice from random strangers, feel free to skip past this comment. :) A lot of your symptoms remind me of my own struggle with Hashimoto's/thyroid disease. I was actually diagnosed because of my extreme fatigue and drowsiness. Other symptoms include intolerance of heat and/or cold, intolerance of physical activity, heartburn, nausea, headaches, eye/vision problems, and joint pain. Most people focus on weight gain/loss, but there are SO MANY other symptoms, and I seem to have all of them. So a quick blood test might be in order. And if your T4 and T3 come back wacky, it's important to get your thyroid antibodies checked as well because it can be caused by an autoimmune disorder, which is slightly different. Anyway, I love your videos. I'm a dedicated discbound person myself, but I did decide to make myself some new printables and switch to a different size/layout after watching your videos. @MeganRhiannon Жыл бұрын
i don’t think i ever take an accidental hiatus, as you put it, but some weeks i do feel too tired/less inclined to sit down and pull pages together. however, because i know the practice is important to my wellbeing, i’ll normally still pick and evening to just write a little. normally i’ll just “brain drain” by writing down how im feeling, whats bothering me, what needs doing etc. other times if i don’t want to write (or if it’s too hot to write, like most of this week) i’ll interact with my system by looking only for articles to add to my commonplace later, that kind of thing. hope that makes sense! the longer i leave between pages the more intimidating it feels to pick back up so i do try to avoid big gaps.

It is a strange towel that you get wet, wring out, and can place on your neck or chest or wherever. It slowly evaporates and cools you down. Excellent to use with a fan. It does have a weird texture.
