The problem with the glazes could be the pieces that were fired next to them in the kiln. I read that if a glaze contains alot of iron, it can change the colour of the pieces fired near it in the kiln. Mai Ceramics here on youtube had a great video about this. She had a green glaze that made her pink glazed items super vibrant instead of pastel! Ceramics is wild, you really never know how things will turn out.

your excitement about valentine's day with robert was very sweet, it's so nice that he took the day off and y'all spent it together. big claps for saying no to commodifying every single aspect of your creative practice, glad you are feeling better about how you'll balance doing ceramics as a hobby moving forward. even if it's not 'worth it' financially it still is something beneficial for you (obviously understanding that you gotta balance personal fulfillment with being able to survive, rip)

For the onigiri, I’m wondering if they were near other pieces with iron/copper in their glaze. Being near a glaze with those materials can cause flashing/blushing on the work around them. That is my best guess unless the clear glaze was contaminated with another glaze.

9:04 I feel this way about making things in bulk too! Personally, I'm a slow artist and make things one by one, but bulk creation is sometimes necessary to survive 🥲 But it's also fun to see an army of your little creations too 🥰 Quick q - When you make pieces for fun, like 2:27, do you display most of them or do you end up storing them away?

The pink is probably some zinc in the glaze interacting with it (it happens!) :) (depends if it's reduction or oxidation, and where it's at in kiln, depending on that process) :)

Came to the comments to see if someone had already suggested this. Agreed that it’s the most likely cause. It’s so tricky in a shared kiln too as other users’ glazes could have an impact if they’re nearby.

I absolutely understand the burnout on something you used to enjoy. I tried monetizing my drawing--not even successfully mind you--and I legitimately haven't been able to draw for fun for years now. I used to draw every single day, especially when it came to illustrating my stories. Luckily I still can make the stories without drawing. I have no idea when I'll pick up my pen again.

Just wondering have you thought about increasing your whole sale minimums so say you need to order 50 the minimum is 50 for a wholesale order (also include your shipping). Most of my stores understand that in order to purchase wholesale minimum quantities are standard. Just a suggestion…

With the onigiri with the pink stains - I wonder if someone else’s pieces had pink glaze which jumped on to your batch? I’ve seen it happen before in my studio kiln where we have a mix of everyones work. That or whoever loaded your pieces had dirty hands!

Obviously I don't know how you are pricing your wholesale stuff, but you may need to set up some tiered pricing for these shops, or at the very least, if they ask for 30 items, be like you get 20 or you get 100 because that's what I have to order to fulfill this.

Hi Megan, really loved this vlog ❤ I had few questions - 1. Does any color pencil work on ceramics for detail designs? 2. Before you paint, you sketch, so do the pencil marks remain after firing? 3. I love how you color backgrounds (digital art) after the subject, and I want to try that, so what’s the best advice you can give me to venture into this style of colouring? Thank you!!

thank you!!! so 1) this is an underglaze pencil not just a regular color pencil! It also depends on what firing temperature. I fire cone 10 so this is a cone 10 specific underglaze pencil! It's also kind of thick? So I struggle to get very detailed designs with it. I think of it more like a crayon effect. 2) regular pencil burns off when firing!! 3) hmmmm not too sure about this one. I recommend lots and lots of experimentation. I also have a indepth how I illustrate on my ipad video on patreon if you're interested in a more detailed tutorial :) thank you!! hope this helps :)
