This is how I met my late husband of 34 years. I miss him so much! I kept all his vinyl records that he used to buy in LA. We used to dance with this kind of music in SF clubs DV8, City nights, etc.

I did the same thing going to Hollywood back in the 80's and get all the latest vinyl records at Tower Records, Ron's Records and Prime Cuts in West Hollywood came home with a shit load of records. Now I have 4 crates of records locked up in Storage. Greatest Decade Ever!

@@Acoustic-Rabbit-Hole Absolutely. What this has that few dance records have today is PERSONALITY. Everyone will use the same drums sounds today same synth sounds. The music has no personality. Just generic rubbish 99% of the time. Vince Clarke crafted all the sounds himself on his PRO ONE and ARP 2600. As well as the rhythms and sequences being irresistible. Thats why people are still raving about this masterpiece over 40 years later. What Stairway to heaven is to Rock music. Don't Go is to Electro pop. The Holy Grail.

Yea! CIRCUS DISCO the hottest club in Hollywood in the 80's. Still rocking in 2023. Now I am 67 enjoying retirement. God Bless all the friends I partied with and are no longer here. They are dancing in HEAVEN!!!

In the 80's, the U.K. had great Duo's, Yaz, Pet Shop Boys, Soft Cell, and fantastic Groups like Depeche Mode, English Beat, New Order, The Smiths, The Clash, and so many more. Oh! and my favorite Spandau Ballet and to this day SADE!!!

@@NTHONYN Nothing is better than this. Its the godfather of Techno, rave, electro pop the whole 9 yards. 40 years later it still sounds better than anything today. Because it has a unique personality. Isn't using generic drum machines and synths. Every sound on DONT GO is unique and created by Vince Clarke on his Pro ONE and Arp 2600. Others need to learn how to be this original.

The greatest Electro pop song of ALLTIME. Even today over 40 years later nothing touches this. Vince Clarke threw it all down here. Irresistible rhythms and sequences. With unique textures. Not just using generic drum machines and synth sounds like everyone else does today. And thats why Don't Go stands head and shoulders above them all. Add to that Allison Moyets powerful vocal delivery. And you have the greatest synthpop record of alltime.

This song was being piped through the hospital radio tannoy system as I regained consciousness after a life changing operation. I had just become a double amputee after an infection led to gangrenous tissue in both my legs and as the realisation dawned and my zest for life ebbed away, this song blared out and I found myself upper body bopping and juggling with my (as yet unused) prosthetic limbs...

Frickin amazing!!! I was probably naught but a lad when this originally came out in the early 80's; five years old or so. So I was probably too young to appreciate such groundbreaking music or Vince and Alison's tallents for that matter , but I wish I was back there right now when pop music was so vibrant and varied.

Hi Mongo, well said...I know people say that `They don`t make them like that anymore`, and make comparisons between decades and genres and what not, but you know, the `Comparers` are right...they just don't do it like this anymore! For some reason, Electronic Dance/Club music, started to go completely off the rails from 1998 onwards...Apart from a few rare exceptions, the music (?) that is churned out, by those who consider themselves to be musicians, is just generic sounding shite with zero creativity and appeal. The one D.J/Producer, who tries to keep it `Old School`, is Calvin Harris who does manage to release some decent tunes that sound as if he has taken more than 5 minutes, to create and produce the track...Cheers Mongo.

I was 15 when this master piece came out. I also was a disco nut then too. Funny disco was dead in the 80s so it just went underground. Thank heaven it did. Some of the best underground disco came out in the early 80s.😀
