If they were in such danger and distress, why didn’t they go inside the police precinct? Why didn’t they travel home in a police vehicle or with police escort? Their security guard simply hailed a taxi, asked the driver “Would you like a fare?”, they drove for a short distance (the fare came to $17), then circled back and returned to their convoy of blacked-out SUVs. The situation was manufactured for drama and sympathy.

The taxi was STOPPED with no cars in front to allow the two Backgrid paps (who were on foot) to take pictures in the untinted taxi which they had relocated to from their huge security vehicle with black tinted windows. You figure THAT out.

Because IMHO this whole "chase" was a set up to film scenes for a production without permits, insurance, craft services, blocking off streets. They are broke broke broke, and this was the only way that they were gonna get that footage.

Apparently the security told the paps they could get photos if they followed them to a restaurant they were supposedly going to. So the paps followed them like they were told to. The paps were set up. And I think a Netflix crew was in one of the SUV's filming to make it look like they were being swarmed by the paps.

It reminds me of a story my friend told me about her daughter who was probably about 4 at the time. If she got sent to her room, she’d cry as loudly as she could. When no one came to give her comfort and attention, she’d often hear footsteps and the sound of her daughters door opening - at which point the crying would start again, louder now without the door in the way. We heard them, no need to make the crying louder and more obnoxious.

I've only been a visitor to NY, I also though the same thing when I heard the story, so good to hear a local perspective. Manhattan in NY is a fabulous place, there's so much traffic because so many people live there, I remember wandering down a bustling street and I have this lingering memory of seeing a guy looking desperate to go somewhere and honking his horn in the traffic jams, I've travelled to 54 countries and I think NY is the last place on earth a high speed chase would be realistic possiblity!!!
