I have watched your channel for a very long time and mostly agree with what you say but I can't remain silent when it comes to our history and system of constitutional monarchy being explained incorrectly. I am British, Welsh, actually and history is something of a passion of mine, so when you started speaking about previous kings named Charles, I would like to correct some of the things you have said. Charles I was deposed as king by Oliver Cromwell for illegally dismissing parliament and mis-using his royal privilege. Yes, he was executed but times were very different in the 17thC. Public executions were the norm back then. We then entered the only time in our history as a republic. However, after the death of Cromwell, his son was unable to maintain the status quo as the people had had enough of the puritanical life they'd been forced to live and welcomed the return of Charles II in 1660, a period known as the Restoration of the Monarchy. His reign was marred by the outbreak of the Plague in 1665 and the Great Fire of London in 1666, but that was hardly his fault and his reign was uneventful. As he died without an heir, the throne passed to his brother, James. Whilst listening to you today, I felt you were implying every king we've ever had by the name of Charles was a bad monarch. This is untrue - there was only the one bad egg. Secondly, the position of Monarch in this country is not open to the fickle likes and dislikes of the people. Theoretically, the government could call for a referendum on the matter if they felt the majority of the population were in support of dissolving the monarchy but it would result in the total dissolution of the whole system. We cannot discard one king in favour of the next in line - there would simply be no line. No King William and Queen Catherine, no King George. As a monarchist myself, I find this proposition totally unacceptable, as would the majority of the rest of the population. Also, you are correct, we do not have the death penalty in the UK any more. I hope I have not over-stepped the mark in pointing out the above, but I am aware many people here from other countries do not fully understand our system.
