Meiringen is a encanting holiday resort in Switzerland influenced by the story of Sherlock Holmes. The place is surrounded by a spectacular mountain world and tourist attractions such as the Aare Gorge or the Reichenbach Falls.
Meiringen is located in the eastern Bernese Oberland, in the Haslital, on the upper reaches of the Aare, which flows down to Lake Brienz.The village lies at the foot of various large Alpine passes such as the Susten Pass or Grimsel Pass as well as the Brünig Pass.
The novel character Sherlock Holmes, created by Arthur Conan Doyle, falls into the abyss at the Reichenbach Falls together with Professor Moriarty. Since 1991 there has been a Sherlock Holmes museum under the English Church and a Sherlock Holmes memorial on the main street in Meiringen. The museum features a detailed recreation of the detective's living room at 221B Baker Street, London.
