Music: Ariana by Tony Anderson
Speaker: Tom O' Bedlam (SpokenVerse)
Full poem:
the history of melancholia
includes all of us.
me, I writhe in dirty sheets
while staring at blue walls
and nothing.
I have gotten so used to melancholia
that
I greet it like an old
friend.
I will now do 15 minutes of grieving
for the lost redhead,
I tell the gods.
I do it and feel quite bad
quite sad,
then I rise
CLEANSED
even though nothing
is solved.
that's what I get for kicking
religion in the ass.
I should have kicked the redhead
in the ass
where her brains and her bread and
butter are
at ...
but, no, I've felt sad
about everything:
the lost redhead was just another
smash in a lifelong
loss ...
I listen to drums on the radio now
and grin.
there is something wrong with me
besides
melancholia.

"Me, i writhe in dirty sheets". This line reminds me of my friend's husband who is now bed-ridden with cancer. Happy he was when his son who works abroad sent him some cash to spend for his medical check-up. He squandered the hard-earned cash with his girlfriend instead. When the moment of truth finally arrived he was dumbstruck to learn that he has cancer in his prostate. I could just imagine how regretful he must have felt at being stupid.

I loved my redhead as well. Gone is she now, to a former lover. Well, current lover better said. I thought we were writing a book together, but I was just a bookmark.

It's quite interesting how people get used to melancholic/depressive phases, it's a mix of feelings. Sometimes it feel that melancholia is indeed a friend, but not in a usual good relationship, it's the one that destroys your routine and habits and turns it into a frenzy spiral, yet you can't get away from this toxic dear friend.

since I was little, I dream of a redhead woman, and since I was a kid I always feel sad and melancholia. like a weight in my chest. always there. I had this redhead woman in my life, it was like christine hendrics but smaller and with green eyes, the most beutifull girl I ever seen. but with so much troubles in mind, suicidal, depression, pills, and other stuff. it was my goddess , my queen, in general. I try to help but she just gone, throw me away . she is alive but not with me. and again , alone again, in the same room , but now with the memories , the bittersweet memories. of the lost readhead, and laugh at this, bukowski was another companion in my life, is like is redacting my toughts again and again.

I will do fiveteen minutes of grieving for the lost redhead. I have been doing one minute of grieving, one per minute. For four months. My soul is bruised and bitten from it, and I so much try not to go back. I feel close to my redhead when I am in pain.

Your focusing on loss is perfect proof that it is not really loss that brings you grief but that you are nurturing a sense of nostalgia. And that is very poetic of you, in and of itself.
