So sad... My husband went to high school with Melanie. She gave a concert and would always walk with a guitar on her back. As for me, being French born and now living on Melanie's territory in New Jersey, this is with this song we remember Melanie, for the French line "ils ont changé ma chanson." RIP and thank you.

Why do people say no autotune? How would you know? All voices need pitch correction. Her last few notes were a little off but she is pretty. Gorgeous. I dint care about her singing. Im happy to just look at her.
@stanby27122 жыл бұрын
There was no auto tune in 1971; the digital technology didn’t exist. The sound came from the set up ( the ubiquitous “ sound check”). How do I know? Because I was just out of a technical apprenticeship with Marconi in Chelmsford and working as a sound technician for the BBC; my first job.
@jamesslick4790 Жыл бұрын
@@travis8665 They say "no autotune" because "Autotune" was introduced in 1996. The keen observer will note that 1971 was a few years BEFORE 1996. 🤦♂️P.S. As YOU said: "Her last few notes were a little off..." THAT is THE POINT, it's a natural, non "processed" recording. PS: Fun Fact; She looks just like my mother. Although my mother would be 10 years older. (1937 vs 1947). So I'm actually here for the music, LOL.

I couldn't have found a better mom if I tried. I already miss you so much. So sorry you couldn't be here today. I know St Patricks always been your favorite day of the year. You were never a beer drinking so guess I'm gonna have to find me some Irish Whiskey and will take a shot for both of us to celebrate life and our family heritage. All of my love to you. Please always stay close to me, I still need you in my life so much. Both my Mom and my best friend always. We taught each other so much but you taught me so much more than anyone else. Thank you for introducing me to the best of music. It's helped carry me through life and hopefully it will help carry me through these last remaining years of my life. It's going to be so hard without you here with me but I'll try. I love you so much Mommy. This song has always made me think of you so from me to you, hope you are still listening. ❤❤❤

I'm almost 19 in June. And I wish I could've seen her then. I wish I could've seen those days. I'm not the kid to say I was born in the wrong time because of the hate that saying gets. But then elder people say it's sad my generation will never see or feel what life really was like. How it was to live. Be young wild and free. But I really wish I could've felt the way life was. Living more free. No phones. No computers. School wasn't online. The government was more for the people by the people. And not for the government by the government like today. 40-60 cents for a gallon of gas. Seems pretty good to me. People saw you as your appearance. Not some online status that you're know as by people you don't even know. Being able to walk around and not care what people see you as. Because everyone was different. And themselves. Not trying to be someone else.

This was my favourite song in 1970/71. I’d spent years of being sexually abused by Catholic Brothers and a Priest at a NSW Australian boarding school and under the dreadful pressure of a Mum who had Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I made the decision to leave Australia for a Government job in Australian administered Papua New Guinea. Melanie’s song voiced words that spoke to how my life (not song) had been wrecked and gave me inspiration that I could make “everything alright”. I did. It took many years, study and professionally qualified, before I reached happiness., Lived around the World but happily back in Australia now. In my 70’s now and still listening still listening to and loving Melonie’s songs! Thanks Melonie!

you were in Piermont, NY. you got off of the Tapanzee, turned left on the main road, then made another left down a hill on some small road that faced the Hudson River. I saw Melanie perform at the Turning Point many times. She was always with her husband Peter and son Beau. She didn't seek fame or fortune, but she left at her mark with everyone she met. I remember one night a fan yelled out to sing "Angel of the Morning" and she said that it was Juice Newton's song. not hers and she sang it anyway. She was a candle in the wind. She'll sing with the Angels in Heaven from now on! Til we meet again. Good bye.

i first heard this song in the early 90s. i bought a cheap cd of mixed 60s 70s music from a garage i lost the cd in a move. i didn't know the artist or the song name, after countless attempts to find the song and goolge searches over 20 years I thought this would be just a vague memory. And today it pops up randomly on you tube along with her rendition of ruby Tuesday. long live the algorithm.

@@jon2849 thank you Jon. She died too young. How uncanny. I only just plugged into Melanie Safka last night via KZfaq. She died 24 January at 10pm. It is 25 Jan today as I write this. In any case, she was beautiful. If only we could all have that spirit. Take care and good luck. Big year for US elections in 2024. She won't miss that!
