I discovered what a kalimba was about a year ago and I'm obsessed 💜 I'd like to learn how to play but I don't know much about any instrument so I don't know if this is like harder if that makes sense 👉🏻👈🏻 for now I'll just enjoy covers on youtube

Kalimba was my first instrument (besides ukulele which I also taught myself). I can assure you that playing the kalimba is not that hard if you take it slow and don't jump to complicated songs right in the beginning. Anyone can learn to play it C: The only thing that matters is a desire to learn. If you want to learn how to play it - go for it. The only place you can go from where you are now is up. You can't really lose here (besides the money you spent on it) but the kalimba isn't going anywhere. You can take a break if you feel overwhelmed and you can always start again after a few months. I just went full on pep-talk on you and I apologize but maybe this will help your decision (^.^)

If you’re worried about this being too hard, I would try to learn basic piano first. You don’t have to get crazy, just learn piano basics, as it will make this seem much much easier as you will have a little bit of music theory understanding. Also, you don’t need an actual piano, you can just get a free app ☺️

unless you pluck really hard (which you arent supposed to do because that damages the tines) it shouldnt hurt at all since you pluck with your nails and not actually any skin
