I Completed 100 Gouache paintings in My Sketchbook : The 100 Day Project

In this video, I talk about my experience, feelings, and thoughts of doing The 100 Day Project in 2023. My goal was to complete 100 paintings in my sketchbook, and I used a combination of Gouache, coloured pencils, and Posca pens to complete each piece. I got a lot of questions from followers along the way, so I thought this video might be useful for those who were wondering what tools and equipment I used.

Ooh very sorry about your loss! My Dad passed away 14 years ago, when I was just 24, leukemia :( It’s a big hit to the family dynamics. There’s a big hole that stays there for a long time. Loved watching this Mel. :) You inspired me to start my own and it's certainly a struggle sometimes with motivation but I'm enjoying it! I love your sense of colour. I feel like mine's all over the place as I like it bright and don't always get it right. But I hope to be able to reflect at the end of the period on what I've learned like you have here.

Thanks Jo!! I had some terrible days that just didn't work, but I guess you have to use those to learn from and move forward. I had to keep telling myself "This is a sketchbook and it doesn't need to be perfect". It's a place to play, experiment and learn from. I love watching your paintings! There is so much to learn from doing something like this.

I loved watching along and was excited when you were nearing 100. There are so many licensing opportunities in that little portfolio right there. You are so disciplined! I feel inspired to step away from my ipad and desktop to actually paint now. Question: Were you able to paint on both sides of the page or were there blank spreads that were glued together? - stef wong

Thanks Stef! It was so therapeutic too! I did manage to paint on both sides of the paper without it bleeding through. The only issues were when it had dried and I closed the sketchbook, some would rub off onto the other page, which has been a little painful to remove in Photoshop as I make them print-ready.

Hai! Beautiful art 🥰 can u pls let me know how do u add colours for each painting?? matching up colours on patterns had been a big challenging for me. Somtyms my drawing luks gud bt it gets messd up bcz of the colours i add

Thank you! Colour can be tricky. It's something I struggled with a lot at the beginning of my career. I would try to use minimal amounts of colours in your paintings. Also, have a look around you on products and on Pinterest to see what colours work well together. Understanding colour theory also helps a lot. Understanding colour really is something that develops overtime...it took me years!! And I still don't think I'm that good at it.
