I've been #handtools curious of late and recently bought my first spokeshaves. They are from MTC, ‪@timbeconaus‬'s ‪@melbournetoolcompany‬ brand and the kit has both the round spoke shave and the standard flat one. I'm into power tool #woodworking usually so my review and unboxing of them will be from the point of view of how easy to set up and use they are by a person with no clue when it comes to tools without batteries :P The good news is you CAN fit the blade in the Veritas Mk2 Honing Guide to sharpen them up!
No affiliation or sponsorship, but you can get them here:

The hollow grind on the bevel is a bonus! Saves you having to remove metal across the entire bevel, your honing can be concentrated where it is needed and speeds up the process.

Hadn't thought of it like that, I'm still very new to the world of hand tools and sharpening, I'll take it as a win then 😊

They sit very nicely in the middle cost and quality point between the expensive Canadian brands and cheap big box brands 😊

I've never been one to have the patience for hand tools 😂 but I must admit a spoke shave is something I've always wanted!

Well you have tools to make things roundy-roundy already so perhaps not a priority ;) Not an everyday tool, but should come in handy an a good option to have on hand.

Very cool! Also my guess for magnetic blades, they use a magnet to hold them during grinding and didn't demagnetize the parts after.

I'm really enjoying them! Can actually remove a bit of material quickly and really come in handy shaping stuff that otherwise I'd have figure out sketchy jigs followed by much sanding

Hi James, That Melbourne tool company makes some nice tools. And that m2 steel blade edge looks deadly sharp and a lot of fun to use. I have a couple old Stanley ones and have not been really successful using them, probably cause my rasp is sharper haha. Ok you have inspired me, I will have a go sharpening mine and try making something with one of mine. I think viewers dig it when you use these weird old tools.

Especially if you are a power tool user breaking out something without a cord tends to get a reaction 😅 I gave my planes and these a hammering today and the cut really well. Only on oregon, but still, not sign of wear on them after the session in the shed.

Yeah these little box displays I will outgrow at some stage 😊 MTC have put a lot of work into design and pitching these at an under serviced part of the market. They are not Canadian level good, but they are half the price, much better than the genetic cheap options, and none of the work of restoring good old tools. I'm sold on the brand.

For the moment I find I an breaking them out a bit. Once I get a thicknesser that may decrease a little but for quick little chamfers and shaping small parts they should continue to find a home :)

I would say that is sharp. MTC seems to have done a great job with their take on the Stanley 151 spoke shave. I'm guessing that is cork on the handles? Should make it fairly comfortable to use. After watching this I'm considering purchasing these and maybe the cabinet scraper too, been eyeing them for a while.

Those look like very nice spokeshave. I find, even in a power tool shop, there are times when a spokeshave is almost necessary. There’s that little curve or round where you can’t get a router and you have to finesse the surface or round over an edge. Really handy tools! I have a good flat-bottom spokeshave, but I’m looking for a decent round-sole one. I wonder if MTC can ship to America?

I've run into exactly the issue several times where I've ended up doing something sketchy or a huge amount of sanding to achieve what 5 minutes with one of these could do. Plus, they are very fun 😊 MTC are very new, designed by one of our big woodworking shops. Oz only for now but perhaps one day will get overseas.
