This is an African hunting video with Limcroma Safaris, hunting lion in South Africa by Melcom Van Staden Productions.
Lion hunting is one of the most controversial topics currently in the hunting industry. Over the years lion hunting in Africa has been divided into different categories/classifications. Each presenting it's own set of challenges.
We embark on this lion hunt in South Africa, near the Kalahari, hunting on a private nature reserve that has a self sustained, introduced lion population. Hunting lion on foot with regulations stipulating no baiting, makes for a very exciting hunt. An official from nature conservation is present during the hunt, to not only oversee the entire hunt, but also to complete the necessary documentation ahead and after the hunt. The lions all have been micro chipped and the lion we hunt gets scanned and documented by the official.
Besides hunting lion, we also hunt a variety of other plains game species more common in these parts of the country. We hunt Southern Roan Antelope, which is the second largest antelope species in Africa, as well as a Hartman’s Zebra with it’s beautiful orange nose as well as the weird yet very impressive dewlap, huge ears and thin stripes. We also hunt a Red Lechwe and a Nyala bull with a pretty impressive set of horns.
The South African lion hunting industry in particular has come under severe scrutiny. Captive bred lion hunting as it was categorized, has been misinterpreted and deliberately portrayed by the media in a negative light. As with anything, this type of scenario typically unfolds after someone does something horribly wrong or against the law, or some activists start causing problems (again typically only after being exposed to someone doing something illegally or not according to what the activists see fit in their own eyes, irregardless of what the law says or how it affects other peoples lives or well being.) The bottom line here is that captive bred lion hunting had it’s place, not only in the hunting industry, but in conservation as well. If done ethically, not only did these hunts offer a new dimension to lion hunting that was sustainable, but could have also offered a great opportunity for those opposed to hunting lions, to use the massive industry to further research into the successful rehabilitation of these lions into the wild and possibly finding answers to some of the challenges faces with dwindling wild lion populations due to disease etc. Instead, the hunting community pushed the agenda of it being ethical and sustainable and the anti-hunters pushed the fact that the breeding and then hunting (in that order) was unethical and immoral. The point being, neither party tried to collaborate with the other to find common ground here, it is always the one against the other. This way, typically, nothing gets solved or when it does, it typically leaves room for things to go wrong or only satisfies one side. None the less, lion hunting in South Africa, as with the rest of Africa then got sub divided into three different categories I believe, wild, wild introduced, and captive bred.
Any regulated form of hunting combined with a healthy and sustainable breeding program to support it has multi-level benefits if done ethically. All of the hunting portrayed in this hunting video was done ethically and legally, with all the necessary documentation, licenses and permits required by law.
I truly hope that African hunting videos like these portray the hunter and the hunting community in a good light by showcasing what the hunt is all about. Melcom Van Staden Productions has been specializing in film and production work, producing hunting videos for the past decade in the African hunting industry and we’re not only passionate about film making, but also hunting and the conservation benefits thereof. This is a lion hunting video worth sharing, by hunters and non-hunters alike to showcase what an ethical South African lion hunt should be like.

It is impossible to understand! Unless you have experienced it yourself... I started the education for my hunting permit with 16. That´s a very big thing in Germany : It took me 18 month and costed a fortune (more than 10 grands today, including the first rifle and shotgun), which I had to earn on my own, being still in school. Everyone, including myself, was surprised, because I was know everywhere for my love for animals. But something was calling me! Anyway, I wasn´t sure, if I would be able, to pull the trigger, until the second, I had my first buck in the crosshairs. In this moment, I understood, what hunting is really about: All my senses had opened up! When you are hunting, you will see, hear, smell and feel so incredibly more, than just being out watching. You become a apart of the animal´s life! And the animal becomes a part of your life. I have no doubt, there is a spiritual connection between hunter an prey. At least, if you have the heart and soul, of a real hunter... I learned many of my most important lessons in life I learned , when I was hunting. Usually from the worst situations... I am not a religious person. But I don´t fear death. Because I have seen him. And as happy I might be, over my hunting success, I´m always a little bit sad as well. There is no real hunter, who doesn´t mourn for this prey. There is an old saying: You don´t hunt, to kill. You kill, to have hunted! You may not understand or feel it (jet), but if you are watching these kind of videos, there might be a call, deep inside in your soul... Maybe you should give it a try: If you know a hunter, just join him for a day... Or maybe, there is an (legal) opportunity, to go on some small game (after a gun safety and shooting lesson), where you live. The go out and hut, without the intention to kill. Your only goal is, to go out and bring yourself in the situation, that you have the crosshair on the target and the finger at the triggerguard. If you pull the trigger, or not, is your own decision! Regardless, if you shoot, or not, I can guarantee you: You wont be the same person anymore, after this experience! For the better: You will know, who you really are!

This is no different than hunting deer. Regulated hunting raises conservation revenue that keeps wild land like this wild. If the land owner can't make money selling the right to hunt on his property then the land would be turned into agriculture or urbanized and all of the animals on it would die instead of just the select few. And bear in mind that there are only a certain number of tags sold each year, so the animals aren't in danger of extinction.

Was this lion a rogue that was killing people or chronically taking cattle?It isnt mentioned...with less than half a million left[if that much] I cant imagine why someone would want an obviously healthy male lion as a trophy.I am a big fan of hunting,but this leaves a bittersweet taste,as sad as dropping a bull elephant.OK,take your impala or zebra,but some Africans are becoming increasingly rare.If I shot any lion,it would have to be badly maimed or at the very end of its vitality.I watched a male lion who was aged-he could only eat what he could steal,or carrion.His tail was rotting off and in the end,he collapsed in the dust and breathed his last.You cant imagine how heartbreaking that looked...that lion,I would surely have shot.I dont need the "glory"of killing a strong animal.If its a trophy mount you want,that poor tired old trooper wouldve done fine.And if not to put meat in the freezer,I aint killing it.Sometimes there are problem animals,but not that often.Hope you safari guys said a prayer for the soul of one of God's finest creations. and by the way,why are there never hyena hunts?plenty of those around!!

@@patchj3776 in my eyes there are 3 reasons to kill an animal: 1. In self defence, which includes invasive animals like rats 2. For meat 3. For scientific experimentation That's it.
@patchj3776
@patchj3776 3 жыл бұрын
@@DC-zi6se so you mean in your eyes there are four reasons to kill animals because I doubt you will ever need to kill rats in self defence and scientific experimentation is a tricky one depending on what information is that valuable to kill for and the intelligence of the animal your killing, and these men are not hunters they knew where this animal was going to be and did no real tracking, or break much of a sweat to find it then shot it like a sitting duck, however this lion wasn’t going to live out much of a life and would likely die a long tough painful death by infection unless tranquillised and put under by an injection but the possibility of killing it in a more brutal but fast and natural way and the money go to neighbouring villages for food and water then I am for it as they are benefitting the people around them and preventing this lion living out a miserable life

It is my humble opinion that the gentleman with the rifle should be subjected to the "Nososa Xul". For the un-initiated the "Nososa Xul" is a medieval torture device where a pointed bamboo spike is firmly planted upon the ground & the person concerned is made to sit on the spike, so that the spike enters the rectum of the concerned person. The more the concerned person struggles, the deeper the spike penetrates the rectum.

Just type nososa xul in Wiki & you'll get nothing, cause its not in wiki. If u want to know more, come to India, & i don't mean the touristy places. Come to Mayang the land of magic, where they still practice witch-craft today. Come to the remote north-eastern region where you'll learn a lot about the Ahoms & their legacy. By the way nososa xul was a technique developed by the ancient Ahom tribes to interrogate spies & enemies of their kingdom.
