I remember watching this live and thinking this whole thing was ridiculous, from Kirk Douglas taking too long to Melissa's speech where her f-bomb seemed pre-planned. You can tell Helena Carter was aggravated during the whole thing. But re-watching this, Kirk Douglas was the funniest thing that happened during these Oscars. Him disregarding the envelope and then the 'ya know' always gets me. But this was also the year James Franco and Anne Hathaway hosted the show so it wasn't hard to steal the show

One thing that struck me is how Melissa Leo looked genuinely shocked when Mr. Douglas announced her name. Although she did campaign for an Oscar, I really believe she wasn't expecting one, and that is why she was so nervous. Besides the obvious F-Bomb, I think she thanked all the right people personally and professionally.

Why so much hate on Kirk Douglas? He was the 1st Spartacus and one of the greatest actors in Hollywood History and he's just being a sweet and charming old man. Why do people think he's being creepy, he just seems like the generic grandfather type, personally I'd love to meet him, he seems down to earth, funny, and he probably has some great stories to tell about seeing the industry change over the years.

Not only was Kirk Douglas presenting the award, but the man next to him is Omar Shariff's son. One big golden Hollywood star (RIP) and the son of another renowned great sharing the stage with Melissa Leo who had only been to the Oscars once before and has been one of the busiest actresses of the last decade. Jennifer Lawrence doesn't deserve an Oscar. That is ridiculous. She is a mediocre actor

+Gabby Greene Ok, but anyone can swear. It doesn't make them the same kind of people. Jennifer Lawrence and Melissa Leo have totally different personalities. It really has nothing to do with age or looks considering people love JLaw for her personality more than anything.

This was one of those years where all the Nods were deserved....what a hard choice looking back now I know halena and Hailee were the darlings choice....Melissa acknowledged the Academy in a classy way.

She knew she was gonna win. She won most of the awards leading up to the Oscars and went on a heavy campaign to win, she even took out ads promoting herself as the potential winner. Look at how “shocked” she supposedly is, it’s so contrived. She gave a terrific performance, I think she deserved it, but she ruined her legacy with this hideous speech. Cringe.com lol!

Kind of sad how Kirk is struggling to speak. Still, 96 years is an amazingly long time to be alive, and he's a terrific actor.

I thought her speech was human and from the heart. Melissa has a lifetime of great performances and she was wonderful in The Fighter. Well deserved win.
