Actually Weddell seals are one of the only seals you could hug and not get hurt doing so lol. They’re very nice because they have no natural predators in the breeding colonies, so researchers can literally walk up to baby seals, pick them up and weight them, and the mothers just sit there and watch.

@Bolt Ye and thats why the suggestion that gets thrown every now and then about moving polar bears to live in Antarctica is so poor....if that was done, then polar bears would likely hunt Weddell seals to exctinction, since those seals have never had any threat from land predators.

Probably filmed by scientists, we know the risks of human familiarization way too well... :( Also look up seal finger to see why petting seals is actually kinda risky

@@olive-ridley6080 Ive seen videos where the scientist do pet them while doing research. It just depends on their temperament, some like humans and some don't. I don't think human familiarization is a bad thing if the only humans they will ever meet in the antarctic are scientists.
