This is honestly one of my favorite Melvins songs and I don't know why they haven't re-recorded it. They should have put it on Houdini like they did Set Me Straight.

This definitely was the opposite direction from what metal and hardcore were going in 1984. Melvins were the heaviest band on earth at that point and may also have been the slowest.
@musicaficionado38056 жыл бұрын
mikedonn71 I wouldn’t call them the heaviest at this point (1984). But they def were going in the other direction of metal and hardcore which both were going at blistering fast speeds in the 1980s. Few bands like the Melvins returned to the original Black Sabbath sound of slow heavy riffs during this time.
@lopazio4 жыл бұрын
They were Blackflag fans. My war album has heavy and slow metal/punk sound, it was certainly the inception of grunge

In 84 MELVINS woutopen for some traveling bands and some people were not ready for them. I loved the Sabbath sound along with new wave and punk rock. Before Sub Pop we always looked for bands on SST records. Some of those bands were pretty heavy. My take is this Cross the Minneapolis sound with SST records and you get Sub Pop Husker Du/ Wurm

They really are, except that they originally did punk rock. Green River was the first band to make punk rock to mix with heavy metal and called it grunge since 1983 in Seattle.

all their works are diverse, definite dynamic band. sometimes its cool to have a normal tune, but c'mon its all about creativity. and it would be pretty boring than playing the same sounding songs OVER AND OVER AGAIN! Melvins are not a commercial stadium rock band.

I love how poorly he mimics Mike's drum parts lol, probably out of sheer boredom or frustration - playing open handed a lot, throwing in tom fills, doing cymbal grabs, lmao. Honestly both Mike and Dale are beasts on the kit; Dale is a bit more progressive but Mike was no slouch, for a hardcore drummer that dude had some mad chops!

i can't get enough of the rawness of this sound. i love albums that sound this way, it reminds me of like the bad brains first albums and big black where it sounds like they just recorded back to back first takes and just put tons of low end and some reverb on it and called it a day. I think that's what most bothers me about today's music industry (if u wanna call it that) is all about this overpolished, technicalized bullshit which might sound catchy to your ear but is way too superficial sounding to me and i'm assuming a lot of you. Too much showmenship and pretentious competition in today's radio friendly music. It's weird to remember their used to be great, classic songs on top 40 radio.. But that's commercialism for you i guess..
