I have such fond memories of my mother making this dish. She called it party chicken and would bake it low and slow in the oven while she was having a 3 table bridge party. After a lively party, she would serve a delicious buffet before guests drove home. This dish quickly became a family favorite❣️

There's Cream of Potato, Cream of Bacon, Cream of Celery, that I think would all be good substitutions for Cream of Mushroom. I use the Cream of Bacon and Cream of Potato when I make the Hashbrown Casserole you showed us and it works better than the Cream of Chicken.

This is so delicious. I've made it for over 40 yrs. We call it Grandma's Chicken because my mother in law introduced us to the recipe. Always a hit even with the people who do not like sour cream.

My best friend in high school made a version of this recipe in the late 70s early 80s and I loved it. She served it with rice and asparagus every time I spent the night at her home. I was never able to find a recipe this close. She used cream cheese at room temperature instead of sour cream but I am going to try it your way.

I was excited to see the bacon-wrapped chicken with chipped beef and cream soup gravy this evening - it’s one my mother got from a friend many, many years ago. I have a copy of the faded hand-written recipe. Her friend called it “Birds of Paradise” - isn’t that the cutest name for this recipe?? Love and blessings from Texas!
