This is for the memorial service for Nick Page. The first clip in the background is of him doing the station ID for his radio show, Nick @ Nine on WTJU. The second is of his band, the Red Hot Smoothies, playing "The Nearness of You." The third is of his band playing "Old Folks." I recorded "Smile" and "What a Wonderful World" myself. I'm currently working on a book about my family's journey through dementia. You can read the full book proposal and pre-order a copy at publishizer.com/fractured-mem.... The more pre-orders I get the more publishers will take me seriously, so please consider ordering a copy for as little as $7, then please help me spread the word!

Emily and Arlene, I've watched Nick in several videos all evening. I feel as if I knew him. What an exceptional man. Arlene, you, too, are amazing. I'm so sad your time was cut short. Emily, you're a wonderful daughter. I wish you nothing but my best. RIP Nick.

I've just come out with a book about our family's journey through dementia. You might want to check it out. Along with including 40 paintings, it talks about all the hilarious and heartbreaking stuff we went through. I’m hoping it’ll help remind everyone - not just caregivers or people with loved ones who suffer from dementia - to look for the laughter hiding amidst the pain. shop.emilypageart.com/products/fractured-memories

Don't know how I ended up here but this video gave me peace. I too lost my father in August of 2014 to cancer. I graduate college in 1 month and was feeling depressed but this video brought me comfort. God bless you and your family.

I have watched all your videos about your dad and ftd. My conclusion is: what an unlucky illness to strike such a talented and sincerely loved man. A truly wonderful and heartfelt tribute to your dad. He was so fortunate to have such a caring and loving family at his side. ❤️

@@emilyanddad you are very welcome 😁 If only I had been given the diagnosis for my Dad. I'm convinced he also had FTD but the behavioural variant type and it was deeply unpleasant and upsetting. 7 years of struggle: watching him slip away as the aggressive and confused monster replaced his entire loving personality. He died alone this January - I wish it would have been possible to surround him with as much love, care and fun as you did with your dad, of course it's what I naturally wanted to do for him.

@@TheTurboEsprit my dad had the behavioral variant, too, but we got really lucky that, once he passed the point where he realized that his mind was going, he turned back into a sweetie pie. I'm so sorry your dad had such an unfortunate end, and that you're left with regrets. It's a brutal disease.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your dad was seemed like such a sweet man. My mom was just diagnosed with FTD :'( She got it when my younger sister died, it was then that it really started for her. Do you know if people with FTD pass away much faster than normal people? I can't get an answer from that anywhere :(

Thank you and I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. From what I understand, the average length from diagnosis to death is 2-10 years. That's a pretty wide gap, but shorter than what Alzheimer's patients typically experience. Now, how soon they are diagnosed after symptoms begin certainly affects that time span. My dad passed away 7 years almost to the day that he was diagnosed, but he'd been showing signs for a couple years before he was diagnosed - we just didn't recognize them for what they were. I've just come out with a book about our family's journey through dementia. You might want to check it out. It might give you an idea of what's coming and, hopefully, remind you too look for the laughter where you can find it. shop.emilypageart.com/products/fractured-memories

Thank you! And thank you for your answer! Gosh.. 2-10 years.. That's nothing :'( We don't even have dementia in our family, so it's so weird that she would get that :( She started to become quite unrecognisable Christmas 2015. My sister died in February that year, and one could see in my mother's face that something just clicked in her. on my sisters funeral. First the doctors just thought in was depression and trauma, but my dad din't give up and now we got these awful news 2 weeks ago :'( She is very bad at talking, She can't say any sentences that one can understand.. It's just words here and there. And she cries a lot, and some days she's really happy. But one thing that scares my dad is that she has hallucinations. She often stand infront of windows and talk to someone. And if my dad is in another room, she can go out without him noticing it, and go on to the street and starts shouting loud :( She will probably get medications for her hallucinations, but other than that, what can one do :( She don't recognize things very well either. Like what meatballs are, she thought one should use mustard when you fry the meatballs. :( How long did your dad manage to stay at home after his diagnosis? Did he move into a home quite quick?

There are alarms you can buy that you put on the door that will go off if it's opened. We had to do that for my parents' bedroom because he'd get up and go wandering in the middle of the night and my mom would sleep through it. He was diagnosed in 2009 and we were able to keep him home for about 2 years, but then it just got to be too much, even with 3 of us watching him. There's a chapter in my book about choosing a dementia care facility. There's not a strong genetic link with FTD, so it's not surprising that there's no family history of it. But I am surprised to hear that she's hallucinating, since that tends to be associated more with Alzheimer's than FTD. You might want to talk to her doctor about mood stabilizers. Just be sure to start on the lowest doses possible so that you don't unnecessarily sedate her too much.

Hi Emily, I'm just another account here on YT. I've followed the story throughout your youtube video documentaries on your dad, and am saddened to know that he has passed. Alzheimer's is just like cancer, except worse, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm from a state just below Virginia and saw your dad with a Wake Forrest hat in the slides and was curious if he went there for college, or if he might've just gotten it from a buddy or something. Alzheimer's unfortunately runs in my family, and I'm more than likely to get it in my later stages of life. Hopefully, modern medicine finds a cure or supplement to help delay the process of it. It seemed like your father was an exceptional figure, and am saddened to find out that he passed. Hope all is well with your life, and am not sure if you still read these or not. God bless.
