I just came upon this - my sister was a client there in the 1960's until being 'relocated' to a facility in Newhall/Saugus. She just passed away this week at the age of 81 - I remember visiting her at Pacific State - she loved going to the 'babies' ward. Thank you to all the people who made this place so very special.

Hello, I grew up on the grounds of Pacific State Hospital from age 2 to 17 years. My father is the man in the middle of the 3 men standing in front of the sign. My parents had 7 children and we lived in a 2 story house on the grounds, my dad was the business adminstrator. It was a beautiful setting. Thanks so much for posting this video, Judy

My father Henry Howard ran the boiler facility supplying heat for the Hospital and sometimes ran the arc burning projector for the patients theater and My mother Lazelle Howard was a Psychiatric tech in the late 1950's and early 60's. Sometimes I would accompany My father to work at the boiler room on weekends and I have many wonderful memories of meeting and interacting with many of the patients.

Hi Lorraine and anyone else who happens by here who was affiliated with the hospital. My sister-in-law was a client here in the 50s and 60s. Her name was Carolyn Uyeda. She passed away at the age of 21 around 1970 while living there. I was wondering if anyone has a recollection or memory of her. I and her brother, my husband, would love to hear from you. Thank you.

Thank you. I was thinking about the high school field trip to Pacific State Hospital back in 1969. I've always wondered what happened to this place and all the patients.

Cal Poly Pomona took over Lanterman in 2017 (now called CPP Campus South) and since 2021 they have been planning a redevelopment (with FivePoint) for academic and administrative functions. The grounds are currently managed by RSI Locations and CPP Foundation as a film production studio and 24hr security is provided by a private security firm under contract with University Police. Several buildings will be offered to other interested State agencies since the campus is still state-owned but now under jurisdiction of a different agency, California State University. For instance, the CHP would like the police/security station at the corner of Diamond Bar Blvd and Highland Valley Road for a new area office since the officers that patrol Pomona and Diamond Bar are actually assigned to Santa Fe Springs, not the closer Baldwin Park station. The Air Resources Board was also considering moving their offices and lab to Lanterman from El Monte. The University has NO plans to sell the property as the CSU deemed it useful for University purposes including student housing. They hope the redevelopment will be similar to how CSU was able to convert Camarillo State Hospital into CSU Channel Islands.
