Today marks the beginning of our journey to create a magic system for our ttrpg, Guildhalls, that is more unique and creative than a soft, can-do-anything magic system that systems like dnd and pathfinder would use.
This video outlines the easiest, most basic form of the magic system: Conservative casting. However, there are two other forms to be discussed in later videos that include alchemical aspects.

So... Does consevative casting suffer from the same drawbacks as the bloat and blood mages (since it's using a combination of the techniques)? Can the conservative method only be used by those who possess the specialized memorium channeling organs? Also, was expecting memorium to be optimized for producing effects similar to historically significant acts of the god-entities, not just general telekenesis. But that might be bias from playing the dark souls series. (How miracles work.)

I'll write a more detailed response later but basically conservative casting is manipulating the memoriam within things and objects. So doesn't have the bloat mage drawbacks. Imo it's the least interesting form of the magic system. The more detailed bits are more interesting but I need a little time to talk about that 👌

Right so, Conservative casting can usually be done by anyone. It doesn't need the adaptations, though they improve the versatility and effect of what you can do. It's the lowest risk lowest reward method of magic usage. Bloating is a subsect of Conservative casting which involves physically pulling the atmospheric mem into your body to be stored, where the mem reacts to blood causing mutations. The specialised organ is a method of reducing the mutations as the mem isn't circulating through the entire body, just a small section. Later videos are going to explain the more impressive and creative uses of mem so hold tight haha

Yeah this sounds complex, I went with a word based magic system instead. ELEMENT, TARGET, AFFECT being the 3 main areas. So: Fire Cone Self would be burning hands for 6E translation. Air, Point, Sound, would be something like silence to a target. 2 words up to 6 words for combat, but 3 for a turn. So can spend 2 turns summoning a stone golem: Point, Stone, Change, Body, Control Mind, and the Golem is now under the caster's control until they dismiss it as it takes their focus. Also point Change Mind would be like suggestion, if you are short a few words of power.

Oh I love that. We are figuring out a similar runic system for the 'second form' of this magic system. Might have to aquire some of these words and meanings haha

@@Drawlords well it's also good because players can make their own words if they wish, Metal for element, or Attract as an effect to make a magnet spell. Attract mind would behave like charm, the only limit to minions/summons would be 5 that being the max value for "intelligence" in my system.

Yeah that does sound like a really versatile system with fairly simple rules. Is this for a full ttrpg you've made or just a magic system you've ported into another rpg?
