Mention Foo Leong Record Store at Chinatown Complex, and the enduring businesswoman figure of Mrs Wong comes to mind! Her customer Richard Kan says: “You had to wait your turn before the folks in the front row finished choosing or browsing their cassettes or CDs. It was sweaty at times. People who couldn't wait would try to get her attention and shout to her the latest album they wanted. The telephone in her shop would usually be ringing…” #sgmemory

My buddy and I used to visit Foo Leong to satisfy our hunger for music cassettes and cds during our secondary school days. I've in fact tried to visit Foo Leong a few weeks back only to find that it is no longer there. I feel so sad for Mrs Wong on hearing her interview in this video. My buddy and I will miss her. I am sure many of her customers will feel the same. I wish her the best for her retirement. Thank you irememberSG for such a valuable video!

Isn't it very rare for Singaporean Chinese to speak Cantonese? Over in Malaysia, specifically in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya and Ipoh, it used to be the dominant language/dialect spoken by Chinese but it's use has been steadily dwindling especially in the first two cities.

Singaporean speaking Cantonese isn't rare is just that many Hokkiens that time came to Singapore and many Cantoneses went to Malaysia but some settled in Singapore because of war displacement etc but Singaporeans speaking Hakka Hainan Fuzhou are the rare ones

I HAD BEEN PATRONIZING THIS MUSIC SHOP SINCE 1986 ,OVER 3 DECADES OF FRIENDSHIP WITH THIS.MUSIC SHOP .I HAD BOUGHT ALMOST ALL MY TERESA TENG TAPES AND CDS FROM THIS SHOP.IN THE 80S TO.90S TERESA TAPES WERE BOUGHT AROUND 4.5 TO 5.5 .I STARTED. MY COLLECTION OF TERESA CDS STARTED SINCE LATE 1993 WHEN SHE WAS STILL ALIVE. THERE WAS ONCE, I PLACED AN ORDER OF 50 DIFFERENT TITLES OF TERESA CDS AT ONE GO,,THIS LADY GAVE ME A BIG DISCOUNT, FOR BUDGET CD 10.5 A PIECE,NORMAL POLYGRAM CD 19 BUCKS. SHE WAS SLOW IN SECURING THE ORDER AND I KEPT PRESSING, SHE WAS CONFUSED THAT SHE PLACED AN ADDITIONAL ORDER OF ANOTHER 50CDS. SHE SAID OH.SEI LO SEI LO MAI OOMH CU LO SEI LO SEI LO.MEANING OH DEAR ,I CANNOT SELL THE REMAINING STOCK, OH DIE LAH.THAT WAS THE MOST HILARIOUS MOMENT.HOWEVER, SHE MANAGED TO CLEAR THE REMAINING STOCK IN A MONTH, BUSINESS WAS VERY GOOD THEN. I PATRONISED THE STORE DURING ITS LAST FEW DAYS.IT IS VERY SAD TO SEE THE CLOSURE OF THIS MUSIC STORE.IT BROUGHT ME SO MUCH FOND MEMORIES.

Nyet~felix is nothing but degenerate thrash full of debauchery, murder, killing, treachery and other forms of vileness. Almost everything shown is dark and demonic.
