Welcome to the World Athletics Watch Party. Remember you can join the conversation on Twitter using the #WatchWorldAthletics hashtag.
Before heading to the World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, the defending Conseslus Kipruto had raced just four times this year. He failed to finish two of those races and had finished fifth in and seventh at the Paris and Lausanne Diamond Leagues.
The likes of world silver medallist Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco, Diamond League winner Getnet Wale of Ethiopia, Kenyan champion Benjamin Kigen and Lamecha Girma appeared to be the in-form athletes throughout the season and they all navigated their way through to the final without much fuss. Watch to see how the race unfolded.

Even in 2017,Kipruto was not exactly at his best during the WC. He said if it was a DL, he could've dropped out. But he was the only REALLY strong Kenyan in the race and he felt like he needed to uphold his national pride. After Rio 2016,when he won gold, Kemboi told him he's handing over the mantle. That even when his legs can't do it anymore his heart should it for Kenya. A steeplechase tradition that, for the second time he upheld. He couldn't let years of dominance go just like that. Without putting a fight. Not when he was in the race. Not when Kemboi, 2x Olympic Champion and 4x World Champion, said he believed in him. He was out for the season due to injuries, did the National Championships and came here. He promised Kenyans, and he delivered. 🇰🇪 😭. Girma is phenomenal 💯, Ethiopians are worthy rivals and awesome neighbours

@@Aryan_Tomar0008 Agreed but is shows the poor level of sports in india.Japan, netherlands, great Britain, Germany are so small countries in terms of geographical size and population and still they managed to get above 20 medals till now and we have only 1 medal. Shame on indian politicians for such level of sports in our country. In swimming there are 35 competitions and we didn't sent any sportspersons in that category. Can you tell how much swimming pools we have which have a length of 50 metres. Im myself an athlete.I used fo finish 400 metres in 49 seconds. But i left sports because we don't have any coaches and the level of training which other countries provide. No support is given to atheletes when they need the most and when some players win we give crores of ruppees. See the ground reality of sports.India and indians should feel ashamed of the level of soorts in our country.

@@mohitdalal9238 no he didn’t, he finished 13th out of 16 runners. With a very respectable time in which he got the NR of 8:21. Running 3k under 9mins is just super human, you are basically Sprinting the whole time. If he had the support of just 50% of the guys finishing in the top 5, he would be a world beater, I believe.
