The Redmon injury and having his father finish the race with him, that was a true moment of inspiration in Olympic history. That was very touching and inspiring because it became about much more than a race!! 🙌

If Johnson had not been suffering from food poising they would have probably been a second faster

I'm surprised his conditioning was good enough for him to still run. They smartly had him on the 3rd leg tho, where the slowest runner usually is

2 seconds faster! Michael only ran 44.8 split. Not fast by his standard. If healthy he would’ve easily ran sub 44 like Quincy and Steve

Johnson ran a sub 43 second leg a year later. So your right about the team being faster.

Conservatively Michael Johnson Healthy runs 43.80 Relay leg they run 2:54:7 near the later World Record of Andrew Valmon , Quincy Watts , Butch Reynolds and Michael Johnson in 2:54.2 , Johnson running the first Relay leg under 43.00 seconds , Quincy Watts 43.3 , Butch Reynolds 43.2 and Andrew Valmon 44. 5 opening leg , still my favorite event

It was ridiculous how much press Derek Redmond received for injuring himself and hopping around the track. More people remember him getting injured than they remember Quincy Watts winning the race.

I find it slightly odd that in 27 years the US haven't come within a second of the current record (disregarding 1998) despite how good 400 running has been in that country, maybe 4 haven't come along at the same time since..

Interrupted by the "war on drugs" our best athletes for 20 years were either incarcerated or a victim of violence. Ametica eats her young not see them to greatness. Were just getting back on track literally with this generation not being as affected by our governments policy.

Great race for the USA. But, This is the worst televised 4 by 400 meters I have ever watched. How can the tv screen turn just to the winners and cut off the rest of the other teams while the race was still in progress! Wow. JMO

@@chicnoir29 at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships in 91 in the 4x400m relay England had defeated the US. Redmond, Black, Akabusi and Regis. They could have repeated that effort and got a sure gold. But Redmond participated in the individual 400m and this happened. He was the fastest Brit, but not fast enough for an individual medal.
