Elevate your hair game with this fade and long top men's haircut tutorial. Expert barber shares cutting techniques and styling tips for a stylish, modern look.
-1:04 MC starts by using a 1 1/2 metal guard on his Oster clippers.
-2:34 He changes to a 00000 metal guard on his Oster clippers.
-4:28 Next, he uses a 1 plastic guard to begin fading.
-5:12 He moves to a 1/2 plastic guard.
-6:17 MC removes the plastic guard and uses an open blade to further blend the line. He adjusts the lever when necessary.
-8:17 Watch a sculpting technique done with a razor. This will remove bulk to blend the sides and back of the hairstyle into the fade.
-10:05 He begins to incorporate the top of the hairstyle into the sides and the back using the same razor technique. This will continue to remove bulk and create texture in the hair.
-11:12 He uses scissors over comb to further blend the sides and back into the fade.
-12:00 Watch a quick blow dry.
Enjoy!!

I feel as though this is more of a video for actual barbers/cosmetologists to watch than people “trying to cut their mans hair at home” so I appreciate all the “what will make you stand out from others” comments... helpful for me as a cosmetologist... there are many other KZfaq videos for at home men’s hair beginner tutorials for the people saying he’s just gloating. I appreciate educators helping me and telling me what will make me stand out

You're absolutely right. I'm a cosmetologist and I can't tell you how many men's haircuts I've had to fix because although they faded the sides and back good they butchered the top. I had to deal with some bad haircuts on top and at times cut off a lot of the length to fix the bad cut. So I have a lot of men clients who come to me for to cut the top and styling. I can fade too but some want the other services with a straight razor that I'm not legally allowed to do as a cosmetologist so they will get that part done at the barber but tell them not to touch the top and I'll do the top for them and fade just the top into the sides and back.

Same!! I worked on base when my husband was military so I am very skilled with Fades,And the only person in the salon who knew how to do them, however the fact that I'm not allowed to use a straight razor really bothers me. I wish they would change that rule 😕 then I would just become a barber

Hey Stef, I think your issue with this video, specifically his choice to use commentary instead of explaining what he’s doing step by step, is a bit misguided and silly. This video is not for novices or “do it yourself” folks, rather it’s for barbers who want to improve their fade quality. While you may hear a guy pointlessly bragging about how great he is and how much he makes bc of it, barbers will hear him explaining how improving your fades using a straight razor, scissor work, etc is going to help separate a barber from the overly saturated haircut market, which will help you get to the point where you can demand better prices from your customers. All of this leads to a loyal customer base who will be willing to pay more and go further away to get the best haircut they can. Sorry for the long message I just think it’s important to point this out because I know you are not alone in disliking the video. Hopefully this will help other people have the proper context for this video and not hate on him or his content, bc it is really good for the barbers it’s directed at. Cheers!!

To us most haircuts we do we use shears and the razor and clippers all in one...around where I live along with a city a few hours away most barbers are great with the "lost art" that I dont really think its lost or maybe it just came back again. I dont know.

I have a question on your preference on how to blend out lines in fades. It seems that you prefer to start with a shortest guard/blade and then go back in with a longer guard to blend out the line. I was initially tought to fade by using the technique of starting with a longer guard first and go in with a shorter guard to blend out the line .Is it all about preference or do you feel you get a more precise and seamless fade by first working with a shorter blade than blending the line out with a longer guard? I would appreciate your thoughts since I always have received mixed advice/techniques on how to fade properly.
@MCBarber
@MCBarber 6 жыл бұрын
Bonnie Howell To some extent it is a personal preference but also you have to take in consideration the type of fade you are doing when you're doing lo fade it is safer to follow method that you are thoat but if you're doing high fade I prefer to start with lo guard bu it also depends on the shape of the Hade sa well the texture of the hair I hope that answers your question

So went to cut my hair today because I have interview tomorrow and I am broke so went cheap. the barber I went to did not fade out but instead went with the curvature of my head and I do not like it at all, I stopped her so that she does no more damage. I want to cut the long lengths on top shorter, but myself. How do I go about fading my disconnected haircut with #2 to temple into a blended or faded cut. I have about 4” on top. It looks not so good, horrible in fact.

Does anybody else cut their husband hair? Do they try to tell you how to do it from the chair? First let me say I am in no way a hairdresser. I just pretend. My mom taught me a little and I have picked up things along the way. Everything would have been fine. We or I have cut his hair the same way forever, with variations in length of coarse. However this time he decided he wanted a fade with a long top. He showed me pictures of Jonny Depp. Pete even bought a new shaver with various attachments. Let’s just say it is the first time I have made a mistake. The back is really tight! 😭😭😭 It turned out ok. Although I hate that damn shaver! Also Peter has thin hair with 4 different hair textures. I told him it is not that easy. He said “Well you make it look easy”. Thanks but it’s not! I am going to go have a hard lemonade and maybe a shot or 2 of Tequila. 🥺 Well he loves it! ~sigh~ He said it looks great. I need a technique to blend the back better or an really nice shaver. There is more of a step than I would like. Otherwise I’m good. If you have suggestions please help!! #iamnotahairdresserijusyplaayoneontv

The reason I don't want to (or can't) pay a barber more than 15 bucks is because I can't afford more than 15 bucks for anything and who wants to pay more than that for a haircut that only lasts 3 days?! I want my hair to look good for months, not days. I have been to every barber and hair dresser in New Jersey and haven't been satisfied with any of them. I have thick wavy (type 2b) hair and they don't know how to cut it at any price. It always looks the same. No matter what style I get it cut, it looks the same. I am now growing my hair on top and fading the bottom myself and it looks better than ever! My mom is a hairdresser so maybe I get it from her along with my music ability.
