I adore that some people are so dumb that they think they can pass themselves off by using some terms they think are "liberal" and repeating it several times without applying ANY of the actual ideology of equality or progressiveness in their nonsensical, completely self-centered belief they want to share with the world. @cwhitney1972
@cwhitney1972 Жыл бұрын
I think the very dumb explanation would be that women wouldn't trap men with pregnancy if they knew they weren't going to get this massive windfall of child support. The guy's hatred of women demands that he sees them as calculating and grasping, rather than being put in a bad situation. He sort of looked as though he was getting to it but backed off to discuss this instead, but I suspect he was going to say he was in support of men "making the choice" to end the pregnancy, which can only happen when the man wants the pregnancy to end and the woman does not. He seems either completely ignorant of the differing circumstances that men and women face in this situation or he doesn't believe they matter; which of course means that he thinks men should be able to get what they want regardless of what the woman wants.
@greywolf7577
@greywolf7577 11 ай бұрын
@@cwhitney1972 In states where abortion is legal, women are able to get what they want as far as having a child regardless of what the man wants. How is that more fair? The best solution is to legally require abortion for ALL pregnancies unless BOTH parents want a child. That would give equal choice to everyone and would mean that all children have a loving two parents. It's really sad how many people feel that giving men the same options as women is somehow hurting women. It does remind me of the phrase "losing privilege feels like oppression to the privileged person".

@@greywolf7577 The problem ends up being that you're requiring gov't oversight into the reproduction of *all* families. Forcing the gov't to monitor all females for pregnancy and forcing abortion upon them if they don't put in legal paperwork proving mutual consent to child-rearing. The amount of overhead is excessive even if your stance was morally correct (which I have the sneaking suspicion that it isn't given the whole... legal *requirement* of abortion). A better solution I think, would be the abolition of paternity-based child support, and then instating subsidies for single-parents (perhaps even a UBI for single mothers and fathers, so that they can focus on raising their kids). Essentially making *everyone* pay for child support, and just taking it from our tax dollars instead of holding a man severely responsible for what could have been an accident (condoms break and nothing but abstinence is 100% effective, and some women find abortion inherently morally wrong, causing them to carry when they don't want to).

Besides - the number of men who refuse to wear condoms and then are mad about child support are kind of insane. That's what "men's rights" is. I found it hard to listen to this because these men all adopt the same insipid tone--that' of a man speaking at an anger management group he is required to attend by the courts as part of his sentence for domestic violence. They moan about how they are the real victim and break into sobs while moaning that she is the villain and how she "just wouldn't listen." The tone of the aggrieved and fragile white man playing the victim is nauseating because it is how misogynists try to hide among us while their resentment is building and bound to lead to more violence against women. In the mean time they try to elect people who will attack the rights of women acting in bad faith and lying about their beliefs and motivations. They hate women who they fathered a child with because they can't have sex with them any more. This is the reason they don't want to pay child support, and also the reason they want to assert parental rights over a child they never helped to raise or supported, not to see their child but to control her life with the goal of making things harder for her and dictating what she can or cannot do, all based on their anger that she won't f*ck them anymore.

Sam laid out exactly what he/you should be advocating for, so having a child isn't such a financial burden on both parties. And if you're that concerned about an unwanted pregnancy, you have prevenative options yourself. A vasectomy (which is reversible and the most effective form of birth control at 100% effective), men also have a pill now, and/or wrap it up. Which you should be doing anyway to prevent the spread of stis. You have control over unwanted pregnancies too. You have choices you are in control of, which involves your body. So if a woman wanted to go through with the pregnancy and the man didn't, the pregnancy would be terminated (and vice versa if the man wanted to keep it). It's implied that the man's decision would be the one that mattered, and therefore, if men are always able to choose when to have kids or not (by deciding for the woman), then there would be no fatherless children. I don't have any children and thus have no child to pay child support for, but I can see that the law gives women far more reproductive choice than it gives men due to women having the ability to have an abortion while men aren't allowed to abort the fetus. I think in a fair world, every pregnancy would legally be required to be aborted unless both parents want the child. Not only would this give equal rights, but it would mean that every child would have a loving two parent household. It's disturbing how angry people get when you suggest giving men the same reproductive choices that women have.

As far back as 1987, one of my friends in high school became pregnant and the guy (also in high school) denied paternity. She was eligible for Medicaid and AFDC (aka “welfare”), which would’ve put him on the hook for child support, but since he challenged it, he had the option to take a paternity test, with the catch being that if it showed he wasn’t the dad, the state would cover the cost, but if he was the dad, he had to pay for the test, too. He insisted on the test (actually, his dad insisted), and of course it was positive. My point being that the DNA testing this guy wants has already been around a long time. 😂

Hey dude, your father still owes your mother that money and if you go to the child support department, they will go after him free of charge. I think it differs by state, but in California there is 10% interest on past due child support. Your father's debt doesn't clear unless your mother dies, so chances are he owes a shitload and she can hopefully get back the money she would have saved had he contributed financially.

The determining factor in whether a person has a say in a pregnancy depends on their continued participation in it. If your contribution was a 30 second skeet, then your say in what happens during that pregnancy should last those 30 seconds. If your contribution to that pregnancy lasts around 9 months, then your say over the pregnancy should last around 9 months. In this caller's case, a man's right to choose begins and ends at whether or not he pulls out. Also, his "equal rights to choose" argument means a rapist could force a woman to not only carry a child, but also to sue for custody and get child support from the victim. I work for a family law firm and it's ridiculous how many people don't understand the burden of raising a child. I get that this guy thinks it's unfair that the birthing partner can choose whether or not a child exists in this world and thus if the sperm donor doesn't want a child they have no recourse if the birthing partner has the baby, but just like women have been criticized throughout history for "not closing their legs", sperm donors have every right to take proper precautions to avoid impregnating someone. There are some crappy people out there who make promises that they don't keep, but ultimately it's YOUR responsibility to protect yourself and your interests. You can't blame the parent of your child because YOU didn't wear protection.

Criticizing someone's reproductive lifestyle is right-wing at its core. You can't be motivated by revenge simply b/c a party has a much easier time biologically than the other. If you're worried about 'a-holes' running around and impregnating people left-and-right, I have a suggestion: Instead of forcing men/others to pay for a child the other party chooses to carry, maybe have them split the cost for every abortion they cause through their lack of precaution... I understand completely what you are saying and if I were in that position that sense of loss of control would be difficult! However it does not equate to the pain, pressures, and psychological effects pregnancy causes. Each time I was pregnant, I came to my partner first. I did not view it as my own choice or something all in my control. However I was forced to bear the majority of negative aspects all on my own. I wish we could switch off, every other pregnancy so each partner can experience the pain and beauty of pregnancy but it isn't currently possible and people who birth deserve more acknowledgment for what it takes. Our society does not fairly represent the process of creating another living being and what it takes from a person. No, I do not agree that they should get automatic custody. I can not speak for other birthing parents. I know plenty of mothers that are not present or committed in the ways that they should be, and father who have stepped up in more ways than I can count. Each custody situation needs to be assessed and decided contextually for the overall benefit of each specific child in those circumstances. IMO once child is born they have rights and body autonomy, it's on the parents together to teach them and uphold that for them.
