In this episode of Menace 2 Sobriety, hosts Daniel O'Reilly and Kirk Norcross discuss the importance of recognizing the need for change and taking the first steps towards sobriety. They share personal stories and experiences, including Kirk's hilarious and bizarre encounter with delirium while on drugs. The hosts emphasize the significance of paying attention to signs that indicate a problem, such as changes in behavior and strained relationships. They also touch on the potential dangers of mixing alcohol and drugs, highlighting the importance of raising awareness about the risks. Dan & Kirk also talk about the benefits of reaching out for help and finding support from groups like Cocaine Anonymous.

CHECK OUT DAPPERS upcoming tour for 2024! www.laughsmerc...
Menace II Sobriety Live brings the up & coming podcast to the live stage; hosted by Daniel O'Reilly and a special guest, no topic is off-limits. Combining humour with stories and issues which both Daniel and the audience will have experienced, whether first hand or through someone they know. Offering an environment for people to openly discuss their struggles was Daniel's main focus behind starting the podcast, as well as his M.A.T.E group; so now he also brings it to the stage and to the public.
What can people expect at the live podcast:
Join Daniel at Menace II Sobriety Live, as he discusses all things sobriety, ADHD, mental health and more. The podcastwill be recorded live with a special guest, including audience interaction and finishing with an open Q&A.
Daniel will not only be discussing sobriety, but everything life throws at us, and he would love for you to join him. Bring your tissues and your sense of humour, because we have no idea what topics will be discussed, but whatever the conversation, it'll be a supportive environment and may contain some dad jokes.
Story behind the podcast:
The Menace II Sobriety podcast was set up after Daniel faced his own battles with sobriety, ADHD, mental health and certain life scenarios. He set up a M.A.T.E group on Facebook, so that men could support men in an accessible, open and friendly environment. Upon seeing the responses from men around the world to some of the posts on the group, Daniel was blown away by the kindness and support of strangers. This led him to create the podcast, inviting a range of guests from different backgrounds, sharing his own personal experiences & struggles; and now, opening up to the public in a live environment, where people can come along and watch in-person, or get involved in the audience interaction.

I’m on holiday with my family in Turkey, yesterday was my 39th birthday and I am going sober so on my 40th I can be a year clean, I’ve struggled with gear and booze for about 16 years and have a 5 year old son, since he was born I’ve been trying to bang it on the head but just keep failing. Been sober 462 days as of this morning, been out with my wife and daughter celebrating our wedding anniversary, popped in to my head that I wanted a Guinness and told my wife and she gently reminded me that I can’t control it when I have a drink, always leads to vodka,my point is even when I feel great and life is good my addiction is waiting in the wings to jump me and do me in,came home and did a workout instead. Sobriety is the greatest gift I’ve ever given to myself. Fantastic podcast too!

37 days sober today after 16 years of substituting one drug for another and eventually ending up in dark places. I’m grateful for the fellowship I’m part of, it’s given me my life back. I was powerless. Completely powerless. When my sponsor told me I was spiritually and mentally sick, it all made sense. Lightbulb moment. I do everything he says and don’t miss a day of directions I’ve been given. I want everyone to find a way out of this unforgiving addiction. It’s a disease of the mind that wants you alone and broken, mentally and spiritually. It wants you dead and it won’t stop until it’s treated. There is a way out and we can all recover I promise you.

Please never give up this channel over some cmments, your helping so many people here, probably more than you know. It's helping me on my sobriety journey and what I like about it I'd that there's all different levels of addiction shown here. Alcohol has almost ruined my life and many relationships and I've never been an all week drinker. I think its important to have channels like this to show all different kinds of addiction levels. It doesn't have to be a Daily habit to cause havoc or ruin your life. Thank you for validating this point amd keep going. 👏

Im 8 months sober and i am at the point where i dont really miss drinking. The thought brings fear to me ie the hangovers and fk ups. Just returned from a two week all inclusive holiday and didnt touch a drop! I remebered the times i would be hanging out of my ass. Would spend so much time feeling sorry for myself, distracted by the awful anxiety and would missing booked excursions. I actually enjoyed this holiday and remembered every moment 😂 Being sober is my life now, it is me and there is no going back.. ever!

Mad props for doing this podcast mate. You are so relatable for a lot of geezers who struggle with binge drinking on a weekend. It’s definitely and epidemic in the UK. Also to the people who are slating you, it’s because your holding up a mirror of accountability to them and they don’t like that others are bettering themselves. Keep it up mate, I find these podcasts so helpful. You are doing great things.

It will be a year 8/19 for my sober bday, but I still feel insanely “boring” at times/ predictable and content - it’s amazing but I’m also real that the different “fun days” are gone. Two years off the gear this month but drinking has always been a struggle for me to stop, drink multiple bottles of Martel a week. Determined to not drink again. I’m delighted that you are now discussing the 12 steps. Will power alone is not enough to keep a true addict clean long term (I’m an addict of 18 years) Without a spiritual connection and without surrounding yourself around others in a similar situation, you will eventually fall. If you are reading this and are skeptical, please just visit a 12 step programme either online or in person. There are different groups for different addictions - AA alcohol anonymous - CC cocaine - SLA sex and love (includes porn) etc

I came across your podcast randomly and put it on while driving home from work. I was also someone who didn’t have to go to jail, or end up homeless to see my rock bottom. I was what they call a “functioning alcoholic”.. I had everything so to speak. But I was losing my mind. I felt alone, miserable, disconnected, and like I wasn’t deserving of a good life. I have been sober 3 years and my life has changed dramatically. I still find myself trying to justify picking up a drink every once in a while. But when I sacrificed alcohol and drugs to my god he rewarded me with peace and love. I’m not willing to ever lose that again. Thanks you for being here with us.

HOW TO LIVE SOBER. Avoid pubs, clubs and parties like they are the plague, avoid alcoholics, losers, drunkards, and idiots like they have the plague, surround yourself with people who want the best for you (not so called 'drinking buddies'), adopt healthy lifestyle habits (ie good diet, exercise regeime etc), and keep busy. The devil makes work for idle hands. It gets easier as time goes on, and before you know it, you completely forget about alcohol, and thats a very healthy place to be.

I can relate to the psychosis Kirk I used to just do shit loads of e’s at the rave late 80’s into the 90’s but then cocaine happened and I was mixing the 2 , when I knew I had to stop it was because I was hearing guitar strings snapping in my head and there was a permanent black shadow on my shoulder telling me to jump in front of a london bus it was all the time not just when I was high it was freaking me the f out every minute every day . I did stop by stopping going out and losing all my friends. I didn’t stop occasionally sniffing until the pandemic as a now cancer survivor I stress out at what I put my body through 🤦🏼‍♀️ onwards and upwards always ❤❤

Cocethynole is a real thing - I was seriously addicted to this (combination of coke and alcohol together) - and regarding psychosis I had it quite a few times over the years - a couple pin pointed - one from coke and alcohol together where a police chopper was out near my area and I was walking home 2am after a night out and I got paranoid and thought the chopper was after me and I was running around all the streets really fast and trying to hide then eventually got home and could still hear it and was paranoid in my flat looking out of window and hiding under my desk.. I also remember when I was on MCAT and I had loads of wasps and bugs flying around my room even tho it wasn’t there … also on MCAT and Valium I had a polo bear in my room I was asleep dreaming with my eyes open … I’ve had loads of bizarre experiences on Ketamine - psychosis - I’m clean and sober now though :-)

I used to watch these episodes and then one day Kirk said when I was an addict 😩.... Like he has woke up one day and found the cure 🤣 I was under the impression we will always be Addicts but find a new way to live right ? This is serious stuff this is life and death for some people this disease will never leave us we will always be Addicts we will always have that addict mentality whether it be picking the kids up from school or going food shopping we will always think like Addicts we find tools and ways to cope a day at a time just plz don't pick Up 🙏💙💜

Ive pretty much tried every drug and had some great times. The only one I do now is alcohol. again, ive had some great times on it; but I started to find myself drinking at home most nights, especially during covid. What changed for me was that in my fifties I started to write. I do true crime, fiction, and I find that it gives my life meaning. Perhaps thats the key. Find something you want to do more than having a drink every night. I now limit myself to drinking no more than three days a week, and I feel better for it. My plan is to get down to one night and then try to take a break for a couple of weeks.

Hi guys, currently 30 and trying too start the journey today after years of alcohol and Coke abuse. Already this is hard but in order to liver a happy life I know this needs to be done. Been watching for a while whether it's clips or podcasts you are doing Gods work. Would be a brilliant idea to open a discord channel for other addicts to message open up to in times of struggle so there is a network of help. Thanks guys.

Combining alcohol and cocaine causes the liver to form a substance known as cocaethylene. Cocaethylene is equal in potency to cocaine, producing feelings of energy, focus and excitement, but has a longer half life. This can extend the cocaine high many people who take cocaine experience, even if they are unaware that the combination is extending the psychoactive effects.
