I'm a woman and I have no problem saying that NORMAL HEALTHY female things like menstruation and menopause have been medicalized in the west and THAT is the #1 reason why so many women suffer so much during these times in our lives. Doctors have turned menopause especially into a negative, into a medical condition, when what it really is, is a healthy, normal, NECESSARY part of a woman's life. Can you imagine ladies getting pregnant when you're 60, 70, 80 ? Just like the body of a woman is built to give birth, it is also built to menstruate every month up to the age of around 50 give or take, and then stop menstruating. These are NORMAL body functions of a woman, they're not "conditions", you're not sick, there's nothing wrong with you. But we're bombarded with negative messages such as a period being called "the curse" and that you're "going through menopause" as if you're walking through the valley of the shadow of death which is why for many women both these NORMAL HEALTHY NECESSARY body functions feel like death. What if we normalized and dare I say even celebrated menopause? How different would the average woman's experience be then?

Amen sister...totally agree with how the medical INDUSTRY has turned everything that the human body experiences, into a condition that needs "treatment ". Of course they will never help to heal, which has an emotional component, they just keep you on their gravy train of pharmaceuticals and procedures.

Menopause symptons totally mirror TMS symptons, and the depletion of estrogen make our joints and bodies hurt like hell and we lose flexibility and become stiffer and stiffer, and new symptons pop up every other day, it's a heinous struggle, but the fear thing totally makes sense in this area too, I am so over it all but will keep on keeping on ❤

I keep a diary and it has been a menopause circus. My digestion went to h double hockey sticks. I also do not recover from exercise as I once did. That isn't all bad. I started eating figs, dates and prunes. I switch up my exercise routine. I think I look better. It seems that excess body fat makes estrogen. Thank God I didn't hang on to weight. My hair looks good. Some people lost hair. Switch up exercises, that might help aches. There are estrogen receptors all over the body. Women are not men with ovaries and a uterus. A lot of doctors do not put it together.

Hi, to me, you nailed it. If the brain is hyper vigilant with PDP, it will affect the nervous system and the nervous system influences the hormones. Hence, there is a good chance that even menstrual/menopause symptoms will be amplified/reduced. By the way, in addition, menopause changes neural pathways, so there's already a lot going on. We need to relax more, enjoy and do a constant reassuring work with ourselves. But, we can do it💪🏻. Thank you Dan for opening another "pathway" in your area of talks. And a very important o e it is❤

We live in a brainwashed society set up to age you and negatively spin a hormonal cycle that should gracefully finish off your cycles but instead fear you to buy products and age you quickly through fear. I’m 47 and so many friends and dr and anybody says menapause watch out.. I’ve never had symptoms until I had headache TMS symptoms.. side note wild yam cream balances hormones naturally for women and it’s cheap with no side effects. I went through menopause early years ago, and I think it’s not the primarily the physical symptoms, but the stresses on the average woman (work, teenage children, spouse, even spiritual/midlife crisis) often reach a crescendo that coincide with menopause. I could have dealt with the panic, sweating, and brain fog just fine on a dessert island relaxing by myself, but being expected to do everything else except now doing it all with a body that feels like crap felt impossible. Self compassion is the biggest lesson I learned through it. It took something that unmanageable to break my perfectionism.

I slapped that button. I know what is going on. There are some symptoms with menopause. I get frusturated and scared and make it worse. Diminished estrogen and progesterone slow everything down. The doctors traumatized me. I am not going anymore. I never had hormonal problems. Menopause is associated with aging and loss. Hrt is not an option. The medical system is traumatizing because they associate every bad thing in the world with menopause. The system makes a ton of money on fear mongering.

I was blessed to have a great doctor who-knowing my type A personality-told me not to believe all the horror stories about menopause and to not worry about it. There is a lot of work I need to do to process the anger. They have robbed me of years of good living. I recovered many decades ago from back pain by just reading and listening to Dr. Sarno, it was quick but this time the mountain seems higher and it is taking longer but I will make it to the top.

Thanks to your teachings and the knowledge I have acquired from TMS, I was able to get rid of premenstrual syndrome, which tortured me almost all my life. My mother ,aunts and grandmothers were raised in the Colombian jungles, from time to time they saw a doctor and never complained about menopause. They saw it as something normal in the life of every woman, they were not afraid of that stage.

This is me. Menopause is no joke but they blame it on literally everything. I lost my brother when I went into mine and blamed all of my despair and grief on menopause. The fact that I was experiencing all of the normal effects of grief went ignored because of the hype surrounding menopause. I went on hrt a year ago and it’s done nothing for me aside from stopping the hot flashes, in fact it’s created another issue so am weening myself off over the next couple of months. This does make total sense Dan. The fear, despair and horror I felt over my brother’s death was intensified by this hype and then I fooled myself into thinking that hrt would take all of that away. WRONG! PDP is the problem and it stopped me from dealing with and feeling my feelings. Thank you Dan. 😊

One example of cycle pain - endometriosis. There’s a reason that the severity of lesions do not correlate to the severity of symptoms. And why surgeries and treatments don’t always alleviate symptoms. It may have a legitimate physical aspect, but so much of it can be related to the brain as well. I wish I had learned this at 16. Now at almost 40, I have almost no pelvic pain (and off all hormonal treatments) and the doctors can’t figure me out.

Not bad Dan. This is actually very timely. I am in perimenopause and have had some nights recently with some hot flashes and night sweats that have really ruined my sleep so now I am fearing them. Now, I just think of a hot flash during the day and have one🙄It is a lot like TMS but it is coming from anxiety. I am working on not being fearful about it, but it is hard when it disrupts my sleep. My mom was one who really complained about them so I have that working for me too. I am combining TMS techniques along with breathing/relaxation techniques to try to overcome this. Due to (unknown at the time) heightened stress response my cycles were very painful right from the get go, with many "symptoms" throughout...then I went through an "early" perimenopause & menopause (according to the doctor it wasn't possible because I was only 37 but it started after my mothers traumatic death...so there's the connection no one picked up on at the time)...but fortunately I was aware enough not to listen to or read any of the fear mongering information out there regarding this very natural part of a woman's life & it made the journey so much easier to bear. Wow Josie I so resonate with all you've said - its as though you were writing about me.. ❤ I endured a lot of stress/fear in my life from a very young age which I understand now is primarily the underlying reason for my health 'issues' throughout all stages of my life. Then when I was 37 my dear mum sadly passed too and that threw me straight into menopause and the following years were horrendous.. I was placed under a specialist endocrinologist for my menopause as had such severe symptoms.. With his help and guidance and medications I was able to resume living 'normally' again.. It always puzzled me though back then why I never experienced symptoms of menopause that so many women describe - hot flushes, mood changes, brain fog, weight gain, thinning hair etc... I never had anything like that and never have since - which I'm very very grateful about.. 🙏 🙏 But I did suffer greatly at the time - physically, mentally and emotionally.. Now fast forward many years with all the knowledge and understanding I've acquired since - I realise it was all triggered by underlying grief, stress, fear, anxiety and suppressed emotions - especially relating to losing my dear mum... 😢 ❤ As many ladies have stated here our female bodies go through natural cycles of change in life which should be celebrated and treated with love and care and compassion - and seeking any extra support if needed.. Totally agree with @wOrdsBloom. There is a cultural component to how people experience any physical symptom. The culture will dictate what is "important" regarding physical symptoms, and people behave accordingly. I think Sarno or Schubiner in one of their books talked about the mass blindness that occurred in a small town. The symptoms were real, but in the end not with a physical source. Cultures where people do hard agricultural work their whole lives yet don't complain about "chronic pain." EVERYTHING in western (esp U.S.) culture has been medicalized, i.e., given a diagnosis code so it can be "billed." The interwebs are awash in "medical" info. Leading to fear, etc. I think you probably have a job for life, Dan.

I’m not an expert myself, just a woman of 59 that experienced all of these. Looking back I wished the media didn’t make menopause to a disaster: your life will change, is over bla blablablabla. It’s a transformational process in which we can truly prioritize our own needs, our desires, etc.. My all hormonal changes were not easy.. Why?because my brain was from childhood in a very alert state.. so every hormonal change was difficult. I have a friend that had safe upbringing, she went to all of these without barely noticing it. Also the adrenals provide extra help through hormonal changes, and when they are burned out ,exhausted, you lose that extra natural help. Another tip: smile more,relax, don’t fear, it will normalize that recharges those adrenals and balance the whole system! I take hormonal treatment too but I will stop it once I feel the hypervigilance of my brain has calmed down. Trust the body, it knows what to do. Support if necessary the body,to help it to do what it needs to do! Happy Wednesday Dan and specially for women struggling with this at this moment ❤

I'm well past menopause now, but I have to say I didn't have any expectations of it preventing me from getting on with my life the way I always had. What I didn't expect were the hot flushes! No-one, male or female, can imagine what it's like to be flooded with prickling heat all over your body and down your back, and your body vibrating with adrenaline, as the hormones suddenly do whatever they're doing. I wasn't depressed or anxious, I didn't have problems in my life, I had a busy job. It was just deeply unpleasant, incredibly frequent, and so were the joint pains and migraines. In the end I got low dose HRT, the whole thing went away and I got on with life. So while I'm sure there will be many for whom PDP is a powerful component in their menopause issues, I have to say it truly wasn't for me. It was a purely physical response to the hormonal responses going on in my body. If it had been a hot flush once a day or four times a day, I'd have ignored it, and I expect put up with the migraines, drank more water, less coffee, and shrugged at the joint pain. But it was like being plunged in boiling water every half hour!

But I'm still getting on with my life, learning Welsh (I recommend a tough language as a way of keeping your brain firing), interested in many things, doing the best I can with my physical stuff, learning all I can about neuroplasticity. I've never seen ageing per se as a problem.

Thanks for addressing this- you did a great job! We’re often told that hormones trigger migraines, and I’ve never known what I thought of that because for most of my life there seemed to be no connection. Only more recently has there been a correlation. I have read comments from women who have used a TMS approach to eliminate monthly migraines, and I’ve made some progress with this as well, though the I’m not 100%. Maybe your encouragement will help! I would add that if you notice your migraines are heavily influenced by your emotional state as mine seem to be, times during which the reservoir of rage is closer to the surface may call for more awareness of that and taking the time to feel your emotions while not taking them seriously. There’s definitely nothing to lose by treating hormonal symptoms as TMS. ❤

This video has been reassuring in many ways. I think I'm nearing the end of perimenopause at 57. I have some symptoms, the worst is the heavy/long menstruation. I would love to see some testimonials about treating this as TMS, to not only improve my own symptoms but to be able to pass on this positive, valuable info to the next generation

What I observed from my mom going through menopause is that she keeps referring angrily to how long hers is taking in comparison to other women. And then she will always bring up her own mother who apparently also dealt with menopause for 10+ years. As she's always had a deep resentment for my grandma not protecting my mom during her childhood, I sometimes think that the severity of her menopausal symptoms are aggravated as a result of the connection she makes between her own mother and herself. She is slowly beginning to strip off these shackles from the past and even though this journey of hormones is definitely complex for her, I can see how much of the typical TMS/PDP symptoms can be embedded in a woman's overall bodily experience. After all, these hormones are our lifelong guardians and regulators, so I assume it takes a concious effort to move away from the mentality of "oh no I am doomed, my hormones hate me". Also applying this to still menstruating women like myself

Way to go, Dan! I’m 40 and have DIE stage 4 endo and I’ve been waiting for Dan to get on this topic😂💕👏🏼. TMS approach (and Dan specifically) has changed my life. I have so much to say about this way of approaching hormones…but not enough space here! Mostly…ladies you absolutely must believe in this. Our nervous system governs all of our bodily systems- hormones included. I know I will heal. I have seen so much good already💓

You can also have a sensitized nervous system to react a lot to any body symptom. My hormones had been rocky before i even knew that was what it was. And yes, fear def does not help with living that experience.

I love your stuff and I’m 100% into the TMS world. But! I went into menopause with open arms. I invited menopause into my life. I was looking forward to it for years. I didn’t think it would be a big deal. No groups. No fear. No perception of danger (my periods from 14-51 were no biggie). Mom’s meno was easy. But! I got slammed by all the classic symptoms. Hot flashes, migraines, bloat, insomnia, weight gain. It sucks. I don’t do hormones because of my genetics. So I don’t know about this one. No fear for me. So why do you think it hit me so hard??
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 2 ай бұрын
I don't know why it hit you so hard. But something to consider is how you responded once it did hit. Was there fear and worry once the symptoms started? None of my comments insinuate that any of this was self created or your fault. Sometimes things happen and how we respond determines how intense and long the symptoms last. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pbZle7FykpyaaI0.html

I’m way past menopause. I didn’t fear it at all but actually looked forward to not having to risk getting pregnant. Hot flashes were several dozen a day plus during the night. My kids wouldn’t touch their sweaty mom. I did HRT for 10 years. I still get hot flashes occasionally, especially in the early morning when still asleep. I don’t fear them. They’re just annoying. I think it’s just what my body does with the lack of estrogen and other hormones. My mother had a hysterectomy and actually threw her medication out because she was sure she didn’t need it. I’m not convinced my occasional hot flashes are the result of any fear. But after listening to your thoughts, I’m willing to consider and will run my hot flash symptoms through the FIT criteria.

Perfect cycles from day one as a teenager, no pains then menopause hit and ...... I struggle with any medication so no to HRT. Here in UK NHS not interested unless you take prescription. I had access to top specialist because my GP knew him. Same story, take the HRT. Ended up researching and now take /import from USA bio identical progesterone . serenity cream. Saved my sanity and the support from that company was exemplary. I didn't know about PDP then and now think fear about the symptoms was PDP. We are all different but mainstream scaremongering horrendous. Women's health in UK secondary if at all.

Its interesting because i was looking forward to menopause. I'm 52 and in menopause now. Ive been a chronic migraine sufferer for 30 yrs. People would tell me once they got into menopause that their migraines got better. Unfortunately that didnt work for me but then i really could really see that the migraines were tms. I have had a slight difference where i dont have my 10 out of 10 pain level so much. Every month during the menstrual cycle i would be in bed with that level of pain. On another note. One time in my late 40's i was having really terribe migraines and i looked at the date and sure enough i was suppose to get my period. Well the date came and went and i didnt get it. A few more days came and went and i still didnt get it. So i thought maybe i'm at that age where i will start skipping periods. My migraines settled down for days and i was so happy. Then i got my period. It was just late for whatever reason. But it blew my mind that normally at one of my worst stages of migraine pain, once i felt i wasnt going to get my period, the migraines werent there.

really appreciate this dan. i’ve been in the scary POTS support groups and it feels like everyone with that diagnosis has perceived danger with their cycle. it’s extremely common for doctors to recommend birth control that eliminates their period because the symptoms go up so much. never had issues with my cycle until i learned that🥲 as I separate myself from the diagnosis it makes it easier to remain calm during my cycle❤️ my last cycle was easier as i focused on slowing down my movements, thoughts, words and going about things as normally and calmly as possible. i’m on my cycle rn and i noticed my pain reduced as i watched it. thank you🙂

Fear is contagious for sure. And since perceived danger is the cause of symptoms, that fear makes symptoms contagious too. If that's not proof the brain creates symptoms, I don't know what is.
