Gifts are a pain in the neck. How do you find something affordable yet high quality to give someone? Or how do you find something under $25 for that Yankee Swap that people will actually want? I've tried to cover a wide range of high quality gifts in this video, from small makers to heritage brands, hand towels and candles to knives and hatchets. I'm willing to bet there is something in this lineup for just about anyone who appreciates finely made goods. Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better.

I love my Gransfors Bruk Small Forest Axe. The twenty inch handle makes it a bit more useful than the one shown. It is a bridge between a hatchet and a boys axe size. Also, the screwdriver tip on the Victorinox brand of Swiss Army Knife is actually shaped to fit into the recess in a phillips head screw as well as working on smaller flat head screws.

@@CarlMurawski Hey Carl, I hope you see this. I had forgotten to tell you earlier. I was a Heavy Equipment Operator for 30+ years, long story, was forced into a medical retirement. The last couple of years I worked, I found Jean's that killed Carharts. Playing in dirt, and rolling around oil soaked equipment I was super hard on my clothes. Anyway, their called Prison Blues. So I know theres a negative to your demographic. If nothing else, give em a shot for yourself. I dont know anyone that ever even heard of them, and my e-wife is the one that turned me on to them. Totally bulletproof. Also, I love to wear suspenders, but not the clip ons. These are the only Jean's that come with the buttons for true, button on suspenders. I've been wearing the last pair I have for 3 years now. Every week with washing and they get better every week. When I was working I could get 2 years out of 4 pair and a six day week. I never recommend anything to anyone. It only takes once to have bad feelings, but I would with these Jean's in a minute. Anyway, thank you for everything. I would have sent this via email, but I couldn't find where yours was. Mine is buffalobear1492@gmail.com Again, thanks

When it comes to gifts, I never compromise on quality. One very popular gift this year has been the ‘Cosyshoe’ by Falke, which is loved by men and women alike. I bought these for 5 people but, honestly, I should have bought them for everybody. I can’t say I was overly enamoured with the gifts I have had in return - mediocre chocolates, deodorants and cheap slippers. The sprays will be used to keep the toilet fresh and I immediately went searching for the receipt for these ridiculous slippers. Seriously, if you can’t find a quality item for £20, just give the person money. The funny thing is, it looks as though one person spent over £30 on different gifts for me. If they just bought a quality pair of over the calf socks or a marino wool hat (probably on sale for £20 or so) it would have been a million times better and more welcome. I express my dissatisfaction here, but to the people who were kind enough to give me the aforementioned gifts, I was (and am) very thankful. I don’t blame people for buying a lot of rubbish. Most people simply don’t appreciate quality. Let’s keep on preaching the good word.

It is. I have one, the normal wool jac shirt, and wool liner vest, pea coat, and a mackinaw cruiser, and if I had to choose between the mackinaw jac shirt and having all the others, I would choose the mackinaw jac shirt without hesitation. It is plenty warm on its own down to the teens or twenties if it's not windy and with a sweater underneath it's comfortable for any weather I will find here in the twin cities where we get our share of negative Fahrenheit days on a given winter. Somehow not only does the flannel lining make it more comfortable and windproof but also it seems like it regulates temperature better too. I can wear my mackinaw cruiser and be too cold outside with it buttoned up and then too hot inside with it open and wear the mackinaw sac shirt and be comfortable in both. If you're thinking about pulling the trigger I would highly recommend you do so.

@@gregkosinski2303 Thanks for that. I actually have bought one and love it. There aren't many Filson stockists in the UK where I am so I bought it online from Filson on the evidence of this video (thanks Carl!) and the reviews. I did wonder if I should have tried a Macinaw Cruiser as that seems the classic item that everyone mentions but it's good to know you feel the jac shirt is better. Thanks again

Another great video - LOVE those axes - as well as Hults Bruk....we use both. I'm with you on Filson. I've used their products for around 30 - 40 years (I think ...my memory is not what it used to be). Filson is no where what they once were on many items (though their pricing has remained premium). It seems to ne many of the folks using their items now are not really putting them to use but rather using them as fashion statements. Their wools are terrific - I wear a Filson mackinaw wool vest daily and love them. The tin cloth used to be perfect for me in the woods around our farm, and now it seems it is hit and miss. A video on just filson products would be terrific - though many of the items , like tin Cloth would need a heavy use/hold up video. We live on a horse farm and we use our stuff and that is where Filson is a hit and miss now - unlike where they were long ago.

Nice video bro much appreciated, off topic about the leather stuff I've been a long time fan for Marlondo leather and Saddleback leather but there's something about these two brands that made me lose respect to them apparently they use pig skin inside of there briefcases which is disgusting...🤢, I know I know that pig skin is strong and durable but let's be honest and real here we all know that PIGS are LIVING TOILETS why do these brands use the trashiest and filthiest leather they use it with the cowhide which and it ruins the cowhide itself hhgha absolutely disturbing my all time favorites the wing briefcase from Marlondo and front pocket briefcase from SBL are gone for me. Im going to leave ML a SBL and look forward to other brands like ruitertassen, stock a Barrel, salt Co leather, Craft and lore, Jackson Wayne, go forth goods, Frank Clegg, Bexar goods, WaterField designs, Satchel and page, Moosebrand, Thursday boots and Filson thank goodness these brands do not use pig skin lining on there leather goods.

Never understood the idea of fancy mini notebooks (unless you’re an artist). I once got a Field Notes as a gift but I never use it for taking notes on trips etc since I don’t wanna scribble down my temporary notes on something that costs $1 per page. And if I’m writing down something permanently at home, like a recipe, I always use a larger notebook.

Those hand towels look so thin and non-absorbant. More like pocket squares, mini table cloths or dish towels than hand towels.

No problem... I had asked on another video about if you thinki should get the low or moderate arch with Nick's boots. I have crazy flat feet and a previously shattered ankle so I'm thinking 10 or 12" since I'm a welder but what do you think boot sensei?
