Completely different story 30 years ago. The TAGB tournaments were full on with bloody good fighters.

Yeah he was ok, I was in TAGB for a few years but unfortunately it's just a cash grab. Mostly kids who would get battered in real life situations, doing meaningless patterns with no conviction or energy, learning techniques with no real application. I will concede, it is good for mental health, general fitness and learning some discipline, but for actual fighting you will learn nothing in a TAGB dojang. I was free sparring black belts and dominating them with fighting fundamentals, because they just get praised all the way up to black belt with no consideration for their real ability.

Not all students will be fighting superstars. Most people start martial arts to gain confidence and enjoy the fitness training. I am an ex T.A.G.B instructor and was there at the formation. We had some amazing fighters that would take anyone on and I would always travel and train with other martial arts too - some good, some not so. Every school is only as good as it's instructor and you should look to train at a club that pushes free sparring if that is what you want. I would point out that I think the referee with the beard in the opening bout, is a guy called David Sheppard - please correct me if I am wrong. He was a world champion at light weight and would stand toe to toe with any heavy weight and any other similar style!
