Well, I stopped listening the moment you dissed Tassel Loafers im afraid.

I grew up wearing Bass Weejun penny loafers as a teen in prep school, and I still like them today as an adult. Classic and traditional in an understated way. I've seen online reviews stating the Bass Weejun build quality has fallen off, but I haven't noticed. Maybe some of those reviews are old. They do take 2-3 days of wear to break in comfortably, though.

I love boat shoes unlike many here. I only wear them with shorts though. Here in Hawaii where most guys wear baggy shorts and flip flops or basketball shoes, it's an upgrade for sure. I like the ones Made in Maine.

Horsebit loafers are classic they will never go out of style.

My goodness, people please don't waste your money on Ferragamo or Prada shoes. They are brands not shoemakers. You're paying a high price for not high quality. If you're going to spend that kind of money get them from a real shoemaker like Carmina or Carlos Santos (my 2 favs).

Lost you the moment you downplayed tassle loafers

When I visited Colombia back in 2015 a very popular shoe for the more stylish men was a suede driving moc with horsebit. With the lighter outfits they had on the coast it did pair well. I ended up getting a pair. They are now my dancing shoes.

Just saw this at the end of May 2023. Basically sound advice here. I am a shoe person, and I own all of the loafer types mentioned, Weejuns (plain and tasseled), 2 Geox driving (bit and plain in black), 2 Cole Hahn bit and plain in brown), Sperry Topsiders. I don't get the prejudice against black drivers, my black Geox are the most versatile shoes I own, and I probably wear at least 25 different pairs of shoes at least once a month. The black Geox bit loafers look great with a suit (rare event) and especially jeans, or even an Adidas track suit. I am very partial to the drivers as an older person because the sole provides extra cushioning and security against slipping,

Well even Gucci horsebit loafers will make sounds when walking so yeah, that’s part of the fun.

I like the video but I feel slightly differently about a few things and agree on a few things - 1) buy fewer pairs but make sure their quality is top notch ! Cheap pairs add up fast, especially when you have to throw them out. 2) best to buy penny loafers in brown with a burnish/burgundy/chestnut, because they can be paired with black too! 3) Yes, Tod’s without a shadow of a doubt make the best driving loafers- tan, navy blue, bottle green (slightly darker than hunting green), all fantastic choices! 4) Horsebit loafers- Gucci’s are iconic, but ferragamo makes an objectively better pair. 5) Venetians - very high end . Can often clash unknowingly . But boy are they comfy!

In my opinion, the penny loafer is the best out there in the market, i own a few pairs my self.

Oh man I feel bad for doing this. I gotta disagree with getting a black penny loafer. Black is super formal and loafers are more casual, I feel like it’s a clash of formality, sorry guys😐. Also what is your opinion on suede loafers, I know you mentioned in a video a long time ago that you liked suede double monks for spring wear.

I recently purchased a pair of Randolph penny loafers at the Allen Edmonds store in Massachusetts in Chili as I had to throw a Black pair of LL Bean penny loafers away due to a hole in the sole where I pivot, LL Bean no longer sells these shoes, and they were 6 years old. I find Allen Edmonds a good brand, and their boots can be recrafted by them when the sole wears out. I am considering purchasing another pair but in Brown, as you mentioned. Thank you, Ashley, for your insight and advice.

Some Venetian loafers are just like Driving Mocs execpt they have better sole for walking, and more comfy. Tods are also almost squared toe and also have sewn edges. I think Venetian have more variation, and i think theyre a good alternative for something like a Vans slip on, if u wanna change it up. (But not the one u showed in the Vid)

O love my horse but loafers (6 pairs) and Im not a D-bag. Fyi I've learned from experience that the diving shoes with the small nubs wear out very quickly.

Love all your videos @AwXInc, this advice and etiquette of dressing correctly is hard to find. Your videos are concise, to the point, clear and helpful!

For the tassel diehards, think about it: less is more with loafers. That’s the point of the design. If you’re wanting to show more that likely speaks to your personality and goes against the inherent design. Tassels are therefore an extra add-on to a minimalist purpose ie casual look. And as my partner in her 20’s says: they look like women’s shoes with them on.

My pics for loafers: Penny Loafers Tassel Loafers From that point, Suede and Cordovan leather are the best for versatility Shouldn't wear except on a boat: Boat shoes Not a big fan of: Horse bit Any other loafer, none leather or suede with no interning constructions are slippers and don't think they should be worn to work, or any social event for that matter.

Hey, guy's, I love bit loafers, have budget Cole Haan and a little more upscale Ferragamos. I where them alot with my purple label navy blazer (classic cut) with slim/ modern cut jeans/ slacks/ khakis. When I in a group, they always think I'm the boss. Not that it makes me look old, commands respect. Still wondering if I'll bite the bullet and buy the iconic 1953 Gucci loafer. Great video, keep posting.

Definetely respect (not at all) that in the whole video you showed us 6 types of loafers, but only 3 of them were actual loafers! And 2 out of those 3 were in 'not to wear' part. That pissed me off totally, to be fair! 2 pairs of 'loafers' were moccasins and another pair was actually slippers. That's how it should be: 1. Kiltie loafers (only my opinion. Might be too boldly for somebody, maybe even for majority) 2. Tassel loafers 3. Penny loafers (to keep it simple) P.S. Every pair was mentioned in leather variation. not in suede one

I think that driving mocks with a full sole are much more comfortable. The nubs are only for show and aesthetics and when it comes to shoes, comfort is most important. My 2 cents.

Never have two people been more out of touch with the economics, mechanics/differences of street-style and institutional variations of why certain men wear what they do. First off, horse bit loafers are, as the name implies, actual replicas of horse bits that go into the mouths of, well, horses. Horse bits, by the very nature of the design, make noise and will no matter the manufacturer of the shoe unless the manufacturer somehow solders the horse bit joined ends together. Those who engage in any equine sports would know this, though. The boyfriend's attempt to shoe shame people based on how expensive a shoe may be is tasteless. To call people who wear horse bit or tassel loafers old and or douchey is very judgy. Whether one is wearing a Venetian loafer or any other type of shoe they want to wear, to say that these are shoes that men should or should not wear presupposes that these two are official appointed authorities on either. Here's the thing, guys. By what you like, and can afford, wear what you want. Without people pushing the envelope of fashion where would we be today? Experiment. Have fun. And enjoy. Whilst I understand that these are supposedly just recommendations for those who may not have an ounce of fashion sense, all of the judgment and snarkiness will alienate most of the audience that you're trying to help which, by the way accounts for the massive amount of thumbs Downs.

Horse bit loafers are probably my favorite as they are usually the most comfortable, however, horse-bit loafers are a no-go with suits. I will never, and I mean never understand men who wear horse-bit loafers with suits. It looks tacky and is the reason why most people hate horsebits. Get a high-quality horse-bit loafer, and think of any outfit you'd wear with a simple white sneaker. Instead of wearing a sneaker try the horsebit instead. Again, I can't stress enough high quality. My favorite leather for a horse bit is lamb

Boat shoes are very popular in Norway. I prefer them in brown leather.

I agree, I love driving Mocs, but the flat sole ones where it doesn't go all the way to the toe cap gets ruined so quickly. The cap would rub against the ground as you walk, destroying the leather.

Penny loafers: Got a pair of oxblood Florsheims from the thrift store. All set. Driving mocs? No. I walk a lot. Sometimes miles at a time. I need real shoes with actual soles. Boat shoes....If they have laces they aren't really loafers. Get the Sperrys and don't play with the cheap copies.

eh... not sure how they mixed up venetian loafers with smoking slippers. A venetian loafter is a regular loafer with cleaner lines. It can come off more casual than a penny loafer when matched with casual outfits, and can be dressed up with a suit in a less-formal setting like a tradeshow or hanging around the office.

Boat shoes are (assuming you don't actually have a boat) for old men or guys who have zero imagination. Driving mocs are totally impractical, and look tatty after a very short period of outdoor wear. Penny loafers look too dressy with jeans, so which means they're a limited. IMHO, the best all-rounder is a suede loafer with a then leather sole, minimal detailing, and no snaffle or tassles. You can wear them with jeans, chinos, a suit etc.
