Hello my Creatives!
Today I am here to share a little about how I art journal for my mental health. This is what I do and this works for me. It doesn’t mean that it will work for everyone. I just want to encourage you to try it out. If you are struggling with your mental health, I advise you to see a professional. Your local doctor/healthcare can help you with that. Mental health is a serious topic and it is very important. I hope to raise more awareness for this topic and more acceptance.
I hope you enjoyed watching this video.
Stay strong!
Love, Kyra

Thank you so much for this video.....it is a struggle for me as well right now with the isolation due to COVID and anxiety. I am pulling out my junk/art journal today and renew my love for that outlet. Why did I forget the pleasure and peaceful time spent immersed in freely creating without guidelines! So sorry to hear about your Aunt❤🙏

Hello Kyra, how wonderful it is to have an outlet for our creativity. I too, suffered Bi - polar, a touch of ADD, and deep rejection and abandonment from my mother and grandparents from conception onwards. I also went through 3 devestating and abusive marriages, and was a single mum raising four boys on my own. I finally found the " peace that passed all understanding" after accepting Christ as my Lord and Saviour. He is the lover of my soul, and has healed me of many, many traumas and pain, and I now also know the joy that I longed for all my life ( I was diagnosed with melancholy along with the depression and anxiety of my illness. I also know that I am loved and accepted for who I am - So wonderful !!! I am now free to create and use the God given giftings He gave me ( art and photography) at last. I started about 3 years ago, and I will be 68 this year. I'm so grateful. Blessings dear one 💝

Hello, Kyra...I am an 80 year old woman...I have had a bad fall and am dealing with the aftermath. It is a terrible time for me. I also struggle with deep mental health issues from my childhood .... Thank you for sharing 💙 Covid is not making my anxiety any easier, that’s for sure and all the other stuff going on in my personal life, it’s too much some days. I love art journaling to help work through those emotions. When I art journal it’s the only time my mind gets 100% focused and quiet. Crafting in general is my safe space. I’ve also finally let myself make pages to show how I feel on my dark days and it’s good to get those out. I’m so happy you share this with our crafty/art community 💙

I love that you have us, and we love you and "get it". I love even more that you have a husband who does too. I gave a small journal to my hubby which theme was "I love you because". One of the pages said because "you understand that when I get depressed, it's nothing to do with you. You are my rock that helps me stand". That's so essential and I'm glad you have that too. xoxo ❣️

Thank you for sharing this. I just got done with my second counseling session. Im 35 and just now trying to deal with things that happened to me when I was ages 6-8. I am dealing with depression, anxiety and trying to have a happy life with my husband and our 7 year old daughter. I think the fact that our daughter has hit the age from when my trauma happened is what is bringing this all to light for me. My therapist suggested art journaling so I looked it up on KZfaq for PTSD and I feel like this is exactly what I need right now in my life. So thank you again for sharing.

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me. I am sorry to hear that you have to go through this and had something happen to you when you were younger💙. It is so strong that you are going to counseling and are dealing with what happened to you. I can totally understand that the age of your daughter brought this up inside you. Trauma is a weird thing that can pop up when we see something familiair. I had the same happen to me at the time of recording this video you watched. Art journaling has helped me a lot to relief or cope with my feelings and I love it that your therapist suggested it to you. I hope it will do the same for you as it does for me. Sending you lots of love and support. You can do this!💪 It will be hard but take it one step at a time. You will get there again💙.

Such an incredibly powerful video Kyra. As I listened to your voice-over and observed your process I heard a kindred spirit - I also deal with many of the issues you describe which are part of your mental health journey. As you emphasized that art journaling becomes a means to express your internal feelings (to your therapist, husband or coach) I couldn’t help but consider that “art journaling for mental health” is in fact a secret language shared by an inside circle of sufferers - a form of communication distinct from those who have not. As I write this I’m entering year two of a down swing, putting on the brave face and pretending that everything is o.k., when internally it is not. I am grateful for posts like this one, which remind me to do something with the internal chaos. Wishing you well! Thank you.

Thank you so much! 💙 I am sorry to hear that you also have to deal with these things. I love what you said about art journaling being a secret language. That is beautifully said. Thank you for sharing that with me. Sorry to hear that you are entering your second year of feeling down. You don't have to put on your brave face and pretend that everything is okay. It is okay not to be okay. I hope you are able to get the help you need to break this cycle. It did help me and without I couldn't have done it. And remember, you are not alone. Take care. 💙

I consider this video a public service. I have been watching your videos for a few years and I understand what you mean about the scribbled background representing what is in your brain. A family member also had a very rough childhood. The fact that you use art journaling to get your feelings out and as a type of therapy in addition to your other therapy is wonderful. It shows what a strong woman you are and the fact that you can share with the rest of us positive messages to help those who need it. Thank you sweet Kyra. Remember to not give up. 6 years ago it seemed that I wasn't able to have a normal life. I was so messed up mentally, but I never quit fighting and now I can say that my life is pretty normal. Yes I still struggle with my mental health, but I am on my way to get my degree. A dream come true. Keep on fighting and do things you need to do for a better mental health.
