Welcome to the Project of the Summer - Fantasy Slow Stitching
In Episode 4 we will be working on our techniques for using specialty fibers!
Here's a link to the specialized "leaf" stitch I attempted to show you, kzfaq.infoAWuIWZrsVQ8
The name of the fiber I ended up using is RAINBOW GALLERY Petit Velvet , the miniature crochet hooks I am using are in the materials links below!
‘Slow stitching’ has existed as long as humans have had fibers to “art” with, but in modern terms it is attributed to wellknown quilter Mike Lipinski. After some health issues he was forced to slow his work down and explore a more intentional and slow form of working. Probably the most-lively continuation of this “type” of stitching style, from ancient to modern times, is Japanese Boro mending. In Boro, fabrics are seen as inherently wonderful at all stages of their life and usage and even the smallest scraps have a story to tell.
Slow Stitching a piece is like gentle exposure therapy for experiencing and integrating tiny imperfections, combined with brief bits of time rejecting any negative self-talk. You are developing a difficult new skill of mindfulness! Not only that you are flooding your brain with the VERY necessary to human joy compounds like dopamine and serotonin! If you would like to read the study that I am referencing fairly often in the pattern slides you can check it out here! Its free to download the entire study!
