In the U.S you don’t need a bachelors in social work. You can still get into a masters in social work program with a bachelors degree in another program other than social work.

I'am a PRSC case manager at a nursing home facility, I have 36 more credits to complete before I earn my Bachelors degree in Sociology, I"m learning a lot by dealing with people in the nursing home who need mental health assistance, and I would like to see more videos on the day and life of PRSC case managers

Hi thank you for this video! I’m interested in becoming a psychiatrist social therapist. If you get your MSW, do your internship and become a licensed clinical social worker would you be able to diagnose patients as well as give therapy?

Yes, a fully Licensed Clinical Social Worker can diagnose and treat mental health disorders.

I’ve been debating on going back to school to become a social worker, focusing mainly on mental health/public health. I want to ask how safe and secure it is to pursue a BSW via an online-accredited program and if you know of any reputable institutions? I’m considering an online education since I have a full-time job and to have a school schedule that is slightly flexible with my current lifestyle.

I think the best strategy for selecting a school is to first be sure that their program is accredited.

Here in Canada, we don’t require a MSW to practice as a medical/mental health and addictions/psychiatric social worker.

If you want to become a social worker, getting a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree would be a good idea. However, if you are content with being a caregiver and do not see yourself pursuing a career in social work, then obtaining a BSW may not be necessary. It ultimately depends on your career goals and aspirations.

Licensing requirements vary by state but generally speaking you have to graduate from an accredited school of social work, meet prelicensing requirements, and take the board exam in other to get a license. If there is a particular state you are interested in, look up their requirements for getting a license.
