@@DrSuzanneDoyleMorrisinclusiq I always recommend that people make it a formal relationship and that they check in at least once a month. Clearly outline what goals you have for the mentorship relationship and define how you want your mentor to support you and in what specific areas of your life! :-)

Sage advice Suzanne. From my perspective, I see people gain promotion to management positions (because they are good at what they do) but more often than not they are not supported into management roles.

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS VIDEO. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS! ONE BIG TAKE-AWAY THAT I HAVD HAD FROM A MENTOR IS TO LIMIT EMAIL RESPONSE LENGTHS, SO YOU HAVE MORE FACE-TO-FACE ENGAGEMENT.

Thanks for this video. There's so much growth that comes in becoming a mentor - to sit with someone, understand and empathize with their position, and creatively show them a path forward.

This is great! I'm no longer in the corporate world but mentorship is THE thing that has helped me have all the success I've had in business. I'm glad someone is addressing it for more traditional employment!

@@DrSuzanneDoyleMorrisinclusiq I think people who are just starting out in their career need to seek out multiple mentors, and forge relationships that they can leverage for decades. These networks will be vital throughout a career if nurtured properly. I'm tired of hearing young people use the excuse of "how do I get experience when nobody will give me a chance/job/etc." The lesson for them is that they need to take accountability and go get an internship, even if it's not paid, which will lead them to mentors, especially if they focus and do the work expected of them. Then when they're done with their own work, learn someone elses job or ask for more work. There is too much entitlement in this generation, new graduates seem to expect to be handed a high-paying job with flexibility. The real world doesn't work that way. Seek out many mentors, take their advice, and put your head down and work hard. I'm 23 years into my career and hold an MBA, yet I'm still learning. It's a lifelong process.
