Every individual who enlists in the Military must meet certain physical requirements. This is to make sure potential recruits can safely make it through Basic Training and meet the daily demands of service. Each applicant will meet with a physician for an exam, similar to a yearly checkup with a family doctor. It is important to disclose any prior health issues at this time: Remember, these won't necessarily be grounds for disqualification, and answers are generally confidential. It's essential to be honest because a false answer could result in health risks later.
Aside from the physical exam, applicants will undergo the following:
Height and weight measurements:
Each Service has its own standards for height and weight, so it's best to discuss this with your recruiter.
Hearing and vision examinations:
Perfect hearing and vision are not required for enlistment, but may be required for certain career fields. A recruiter can explain prerequisites in detail.
Urine and blood tests:
These include a test for HIV antibodies and a pregnancy test for female applicants, as well as drug and alcohol screening. Be honest with your recruiter and the MEPS physician about past substance use/abuse.
Muscle group and joint maneuvers:
These simple flexibility and balance tests ensure you have proper ranges of motion.
Specialized tests, if required.

My recruiters taught me one thing: NO = New Opportunites YES = Your Enlistment Stops. In other words, say no to anything and everything. They can't access your medical records so you can lie about a lot of things.

Where i went to was far worse. i'd tell you what they did to one kid though i hate to discourage anyone going into the military. MEPs is one of the worst thing about trying to enter the military or the medical part is. i'm just glade that they don't reflect the armed forces. none of the employees at the MEPs i went to were even half way military worthy. lol

xhunterforest I know. I was disqualified for the most minor thing possible. I was the last guy to interview with the doctor and you could tell he was in a hurry to get to his lunch break. He was practically putting on his jacket which im sure had something to do with why he rushed through my paperwork. I passed everything including the test with flying colors, but ONE checkbox that I mark "yes", and the doctor fucks up my entire life plans with one stroke of a pen. I'd probably be half way through basic right now if it hadn't been for that shithead. I guess that's what you get for being honest right? I think the military should be in control of meps. They lose a lot of good people through those lazy ass civilians.

I remember back in Oct. 1984 arriving at the Baltimore MEPS station at 6:00am. It was an all day process which included lots of sitting around waiting to be called into various rooms. Finished the physical, took the oath of enlistment and waited for the bus to take us to the airport. Around 9pm that night, five of us were heading to RTC San Diego via Dallas to become sailors. 8 weeks later, graduating with company 227 under GMGC Paul.

Yes, here is what I keep hearing, First its the circle with dots test, you can get 4 wrong, if you get more wrong then ask for the Farnsworth Lantern (FALANT) test, which focuses on red and green, you have to get 9 out of 9, if you do then you get whatever job you want that you qualified for and etc, then I think they give you like 2 more test if you fail, and if you a color vision is too poor, you are limited from many jobs. Mostly special forces stuff, but you should still be able to join.

I worked at Miami, Fl. MEPS back in 1980-83. The applicants did SF88,93 forms, then got BP, X-ray, lab (HTC), Vision, Audio and physical exam (check for flat feet, duck walk, lift weight and so on). I remember one thing the recruiter worried most was at the end after talking to CMO, and deciding the physical profile qualification as some applicant will not qualify. It was very interesting assignment. I was a Navy Hospital Corpsman.

They were not very happy to assist in anyone struggling either, i didn't understand what exactly i was doing "wrong" during the kick/balance test, just kept telling me to redo it without insight. So now i have to go back in january.

At least for the Marines then the max weight you can be is 186 and if you are over that weight than your body fat percentace cannot exceed 18%. If you are either under 186 or your body fat percentage is under 18% than in regards to height, there is no reason as to why you could not enlist into the marines. I don't know about the other services but you can find that online

No and yes. If you tell them the mild scars are from self harm, yes but there's no way to tell so don't say it was self inflicted. Scars won't dq you. My brother got badly burned on his right arm as a child and made it just fine, I also have a few mild scars but nothing near as serious and was fine. If the scar is from a surgery you didn't mention then they will dq you. Acne isn't a problem unless it very, very serious and the lazy eye would have to be pretty bad also.

Currently got disqualified by the medical prescreening. Never even got to meps. Went to this air force recruiter who was brand new. Filled out the form and put on there I had adhd and eczema. No big deal right? I had been off meds for adhd for more than 2 years and I had dry skin because I was on my high school swim team and the doctor said it was eczema. Welp, turns out I was disqualified. (The recruiter texted this to me at 9 at night.) I went out, got doctors notes from specialists saying I was medically cleared from my adhd, and went to dermatologists, showed them my body and they wrote letters saying I showed no signs of atopic dermatitis(eczema) submitted all my paperwork again WITH A DIFFERENT (more experienced) RECRUITER. and waited 3 months. Finally heard back and guess what? Was disqualified again by their surgeon general. So at the moment, I am talking with a marine recruiter in hope's that maybe I can get in with them. I'm stressed.

I know exactly how you're feeling. I'm currently trying to enlist the the Marines. I basically completed the MEPS process but I was technically disqualified because my back has a curve that's literally ONE degree above the minimum! I'm not exaggerating. I wrote a waiver and it got submitted to the department of the Navy. I didn't get a "yes" or "no" answer back from the department of the Navy on whether or not my waiver got approved. The letter from them said that I need to schedule an appointment with a spine specialist and get a note from the specialist saying I'm eligible for service. It's been very annoying because the hospital workers keep screwing up and setting up an appointment with a doctor I don't need and my first spine specialist wrote an awful note for me to submit so I'm seeing a different one. My appointment isn't until one month from now. It feels like I'm never going to enlist with all these things holding me up. I just have to keep my head up and I'll hopefully enlist soon. Good luck to you and your decisions. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Marines are the most strict in terms of letting people in. "The few". But regardless I'm sure you'll be fine, good luck!

from what my recruiter has told me apparently he has gotten Applicants in who have been blind in one eye and other applicants who have had a history of asthma. I hope this helps my case

Took me 5 trips to MEPS to finally swear into the Marine Corps. I had to retake my asvab to get more job options so that took another day to do. After I got done with the asvab I then I got disqualified cuz of my "back curvature" even though I've never had a back issue in my life. I had to come back to MEPS again to get an x-ray on my back. So I did a waiver and based on my x-ray my back curvature was actually under the military cut off of curvature degree and I didn't even need a waiver in the first place, it was all cuz of the picky doctor looking at my back. Thank God my waiver for my back got approved. After my back situation was finally covered I had to go to MEPS only for a final inspection because I pretty much completed everything else at MEPS by that point. After my final inspection I basically just had to wait to swear in and lo and behold here I am finally ready to leave for boot camp in October! 🇺🇲

kricket 53 what are the questions the doctors ask you at MEPS ??

@@zaydozier Man, I can't remember. (sorry if that sounded rude) I posted that comment nearly a year ago and I've gone through so much since then as I am now a Marine serving active duty in Camp Lejeune. But they'll just ask basic questions like "have you ever done these kind of drugs" and stuff like that. Just annoying questions. You're recruiter should tell you every thing when he drives you there. Good luck if you're going to MEPS soon.

kricket 53 ok. Definitely understand that. I haven’t gone yet. I’m thinking about going to the Air Force. One last question bro..When I was in college at 21(2016) I dropped out and became “depressed” and admitted myself into a hospital. I had to stay for 4 days. Basically just wanting attention and feeling sorry for myself. Since then no issue with mental health. Even went back to college and graduated in 2018. This incident happened 4 years ago. I’m not depressed. Do I have to tell them about this or should I just not say anything?
@kricket5363
@kricket5363 4 жыл бұрын
@@zaydozier Honestly man, I'm not a recruiter so take it for what it's worth. But to me, you're perfectly fine. A rule of thumb: any criminal charges - they can see, any medical history (including depression, anxiety etc.) they can't see. So I don't think you should even worry about it especially if you don't even deal with it anymore. Also, don't get nervous at MEPS when they try to intimate you to "tell the truth" they might even claim they can "see all your medical history" when in reality it's illegal for them to even do that without your consent. If anything your probably gonna need a waiver and wait more time if you do try to bring it up. That's what my recruiter told me anyway when I brought up something that doesn't affect me anymore. She told me not to bring it up at MEPS because they can't see it and it doesn't even effect me anymore and I got in without any problems concerning it and here I am today as a U. S. Marine.

I have a friend with hypothyroidism. It says online that hypothyroidism is DQ if you don't take meds for it. She's on meds and the lowest dosage. She wants to ship out soon but she's scared, bc it says that you have to be off meds for a year. Is her medicine one that you have to be a year off? And is this disqualifying?

I had knee surgery back in 09 because my right leg was longer than the left. I talked to my recruiter and gave him my medicals. He asked a few questions like, does it hurt to do certain activities or anything. I said no (which it doesn't), and that I go on runs every night with no problems. It was cleared with no questions with the doctor at meps. Your knee should be fine, I say just put in a good word for the results of the surgery like I said about my running. -USMC 2013

What if I bring a recommendation letter from my doctor would that be okay to bring to MEPS or do I have to give that to my recruiter for the waiver and do I need the all clear from my doctor saying that he has like no more seizures and that he’s all cleared and he’s good 👍 and that he’s cleared to join the Military so would a waiver be okay at MEPS plus I’m planning to go in to the Military like the NAVY because I want Special Operation/Special Warfare (SEALS) so would a recommendation letter be okay to bring to MEPS?

MEPS and Reception are, by far, the worst part of the whole process. Once you guys get past that basic really isn't that bad. Kind of fun actually, but oh man, did i hate MEPS an Reception! Hey, Sarn't B! You hooked me up with SGT Showalter and my recruitment could not have been smoother. I am a specialist now and after I finish my last year of school I will be trying out for the 19th Group up in Washington. So, thank you for everything.
