Full length version of my climb of Mera Peak, undertaken in October 2017. The day by day story, including the return journey, full route descriptions and route graphics, interviews and epilogues. An amazing expedition, within the grasp of most reasonably fit hill walkers and mountaineers. Great video if you are considering doing this climb. I have blocked any ads from being placed on this film.

Thanks for this. I really appreciate the story you captured in this movie. I actually climbed the mountain in the same season a month and a bit later just before the season closed. I was one of the last people on the mountain in 2017 and the tea houses all closed their doors behind me. Truth be told, I didn't make it all the way up the mountain, I made it to High Camp and beyond to within about 300m (altitude wise) but had to turn back. So I can appreciate it when you say "it's hard".

For Ama Dablam which is "only" 400m higher climbers spending average 30days...not sure why most trekking company expecting their client to reach summit on day 8...most people will fall out if they coming from sea level..i understand the business part which is quick turnaround times=more client during the season..my personal opinion people who go private at their own pace have much higher success rate then those who sign up for groups to save 200-300$..my point is when the guide said we are here for the group not for individual goals...ive been most of the trekking peaks and if you wanna enjoy the journey better you gave yourself a good 20-25 days for proper acclimatization...unless you coming from a different mountain where you acclimated already

Thank you. I used a Panasonic GH4 camera for most of the filming and it has outstanding battery life. I took 5 spares and didn't need them all. I only used the Gopro for the summit day because it has terrible battery life. I took about 6 spare batteries and didn't need them all. There is electricity in the lodges all the way up to Khare but they're popular with everyone wanting to charge devices. Have a great trip, it's magnificent.

Nice one, some great footage here mate. So on this type of expedition do you basically take two bags, a 40-50L pack and a duffle that the porters haul?

Cracking video you made there and great to see a local lad get up there. I’m heading back to Mont Blanc for the third time this year with a plan for Everest Base Camp the following year but I’ve now got a change of plan 😆 Who did you go with etc?

Thinking of doing Mera Peak end of this year or next year. Did you have any crampons experience? Is it necessary to have the experience of crampon use beforehand?

Yes, I was experienced. I would always recommend a basic winter skills course before this trip. Cuts out the anxiety and you and your team will know you are prepared.

Oh and do you think it is important to have experience in mountaintrecking ?
@Buzzard1968
@Buzzard1968 2 жыл бұрын
@@josh_meyer8758 I think it's important to have experience of mountains, and trekking, but not necsaarily mountaineering. And definitely to train for it. Not sure where you live but get some long walks up hills and mountains, aiming for 10-15 miles walking and 1,000 metres of height gain. Then get put a few consecutive days together. Any form of cardoivascular, cycling and running too, will help/. The pack I carried weighed about 10kg, I had about 25kg in a duffle bag the porters carried.

You can't go wrong with the Everest Base Camp Trek and the Annapurna Circuit or Annapurna Base Camp. They are both spectacular, in fact it's all amazing in Nepal. Just try and take as much time as you can and do longer treks than the standard routes, Cho La Pass and Gokyo on the Everest side for example.
