I was thinking that too, but maybe she was afraid? If she believed that he could murder a random child then he could harm her too. I'm not excusing it, because he could have been investigated sooner, but I've heard it happen quite a lot where the spouse is afraid for their own safety, and so don't come forward with info until a long time after.

I was only a year older than Amy and grew up in Vermilion, around 20 miles west of Bay Village. And like her, I was a "latch-key kid". I was a 6th grader then and those missing posters are still burnt into my memory. Her abduction and murder changed everything, like the end of innocence. And after all this time, still no closure for her poor family. Rest in peace, Amy.

I haven't signed a public visitor's book in almost 30 years. When I was a young mom, I signed one as a visitor to a church. Turns out the pastor there was a creeper. It took me 4 years and moving to a different city to stop the stalking, phone calls, and unwanted visits that only happened when he observed I was home alone with the children. It's terrible to hear that what was a common, polite social activity in those days was likely used against Amy and other potential victims.

Honestly he either will never be caught or he was arrested for a different crime. So unfortunately it's unlikely it will ever come to light. Hundreds of thousands of children were murder or went missing in the 70s and 80s and we still don't have any answers. Getting away with a crime or having someone else convicted for it is about 60% chance in the US, 44% in the Uk, 40% in France, 30% in a Scandinavian country and about 7% in China, Korea and Japan. Clearly we are doing something wrong in west.

Statistically, Stranger Danger is complete bunk. Could a stranger harm a child? Yes. Do they? You're more likely to win the lottery. Meanwhile, children are harmed everyday by parents, siblings, teachers, coaches, friends, and neighbors. And this guy... not a stranger. He probably wasn't a prominent or important person in her life, but you can tell that she knew him enough; he knew her name and face, and she knew his. This was an otherwise unremarkable adult somewhere in her life.

A neighbor and I were two 11 yo girls walking to school around 8 am when a man I did not know or recognize, slowed down his car next to us asking us if we wanted a ride to school. We politely turned him down. This happened on two different mornings back in 1964 before the phrase Stranger Danger was actually coined, I think. Anyway, I told my Mom after school and she just laughed it off saying Oh that is Mrs So and So's father, who was old enough to be our grandfather. Probably trying to play the kindly old man card. I lost a lot of respect for her right then and there. How did I have more common sense than a 44 year old woman? I also don't think she IDd him correctly. SMH. May you rest in peace, Mom. 🙏🙏🙏❤

You were wiser than your mother at the time. Even though real abductions are rare, they can and do happen. All it takes is one time to change your life forever. And sadly, only about 1% of all missing person and murder cases are ever solved, and even some of them are not properly solved - meaning that innocent people are sometimes railroaded into convictions to finally 'close' a case. This means that more than 99% of all missing persons and murder cases are never properly solved.

It is disgusting to us but most pedophiles can't control their urges, not sure why. But what I do know is that they are cowards and anyone that ends a child's life should be executed. An automatic life sentence at the very least, sadly its rare that these sickos get more than 5 years in prison and are usually paroled early. The 70s and 80s were particularly bad for a few reasons: more children were killed between 1970 and 1990 than 1900 to 1969 + 1991 to 2021, second while we were focusing on the 10% stranger danger abductions, the other 90% was being ignored, there was also a crazy high amount of serial killers in general. We were definitely doing things wrong in those decades, not that we've fixed this but it's not as bad now.

This case really touched me as a child. I was just a year younger than Amy, almost to the day. Living in North East Ohio and seeing the news every night of a missing girl, sketches of the suspect in every public location my family frequented. My friends were already terrified that there was a mad man on the loose in the Cleveland area. But then the day they found her body on a rural back road just miles from my home, that scared us even more! I grew up just northwest of the town of New London, Ohio, she was found just southeast. To think that the killer could be in my little hometown gave me the chills. We call the road she was found on, Amy Mihaljevics road. We drive the road often just to see if there's anything left on the spot she was found that might lead to answers.

So, I live & grew up 25 mins south of Cleveland, OH. I was in high school when this happened & my little sister is the same age as Amy!! I was profoundly affected by the shocking abduction & murder of Amy. It's that one cautionary tale that changed how I viewed the world. I became hyper-vigilant w/ my little sister & I distinctly remember the news coverage w/ her mom, the posters/fliers everywhere w/ that same pic of her w/ a side ponytail. It was scary. It was in that timeframe right before DNA technology or CSI became a widely understood tool & looking back it feels like serial killers were just having a free for all in the ’80s. We had also just lost our dad (who was only 39) the year prior in a sudden accident. He was very protective of us girls & then suddenly he's gone & w/ me being the oldest kid, I felt in charge of their safety. It really changed me & it made me cynical, afraid & basically a bitch. My mom “tried” to date a couple years later, but I literally drove away anyone who came near her. I don't know how she put up w/ me. She just.gave up & waited until we all were out of the house. Seriously, I let no man come to our house unless related to us. 😂😂😂 my poor mom.

I lived and went to school in Bay Village when Amy was abducted and murdered. Every student, from kindergarten to high-school had a printed booklet with their name, the parents name, their address and phone number. This was given to us to take home to our parents. Can you imagine that today? So, it would be easy for whomever abducted Amy to have all the information he needed. I remember standing with my parents at our sliding glass door and seeing at least 50 FBI agents walking through this field, police cars in our driveway and helicopters above. We have busy trains that do pass through Bay often and I had heard that they had found something on those tracks and the areal pic of the road, police, if u look at the top of that photo? That looks like the field that was behind our house and there are tracks there and a larger wooded area. We all thought it was this guy that worked at the nature center (we all thought he was creepy) and all of us students went to the nature center on a few occasions depending on what class you taking or a project you were working on. Yes, you always had to sign in on a book.. last I heard, he's in Mexico. Bay hasn't changed much and is still considered a very safe place for families. It's right on the lake and the center of town looks exactly the same. The only other serious crime we've had here was the Sam Sheppard case. This was the inspiration for the movie "The Fugitive". I posted both of these cases on Reddit a couple months ago because I haven't heard any other content creators detailing their baffling cases. Especially Sam Sheppard case. Anyway, I'm glad to see that this case was covered because we still would like to see justice for Amy. RIP angel 😔💔💔

You can't use that argument in court. No such thing as an "it's obviously them" case. Jury would need solid evidence: DNA, video, tracking, etc. Something such as this where the guy was suspicious isn't evidence. Him saying she could have "possibly" been in his car wouldn't pass. It's not incompetence in this case, but lack of solid proof.
