Yes, that was happening to me as well. I was nervous going down steep hills because I didn't trust the brakes to not fail completely.

The rear mud guard extension came with the scooter from the factory. It didn't come pre-installed though, I had to put it on. I think you can buy them from AliExpress.

Unlikely to be the tires which are the problem. I'd recommend checking the cable tension and make sure the pads are moving in and out correctly when you pull the brake lever. The cable attachment to the caliper may need further adjustment, or the pads themselves may not be seated correctly in the caliper. A few things to check there. Yes, completely agree - Mercane dropped the ball when it came to the brakes, they are terrible. I recently upgraded to a Kaabo model scooter which uses hydraulic brakes. The stopping force is significantly better and they do not require nearly as much maintenance.

@@alexmcandrew8370 Thanks for replying. I have to look at the pads again to see if they moved position. The cable itself when I set it I pulled it tight and tightened it and squeezed the hand brake and it felt very tight. And it would stop the wheel really good . I marked the cable with a red marker to where I had it set to make sure the cable itself wasn’t getting loose and sliding back , but the red mark is still exactly in the same spot when I set it and tightened it down. The brake was working great but then just all a sudden doesn’t. And the front brake is completely useless

@@Enginerr82 Make sure your cable hasn't snapped between the handle bars and the caliper. Perhaps the additional tension caused it to snap. If its not snapped, it may have stretched which is a possibility too. First step is to confirm that pulling the brake handle actually results in movement in the pads.

@@alexmcandrew8370 Thanks man. I’ll get back to you on that when I check it . Coincidentally I also just was looking at the Kaboo scooter. Is it the MANTIS you got ? I almost pulled the trigger tonight on ordering that one , it looks really good. I really wanted the NAMI but unfortunately it’s too big and heavy for my needs at this particular time.

@@Enginerr82 I got the Mantis King GT. It is a bit more expensive than the regular Mantis, but it feels a lot more premium. Completely different machine to the WideWheel, they don't even compare!

Not as far as I know. Unfortunately I think you have to stick with the original Mercane one for the front. Since swapping out the rear, I've been using my front brake much less so I've been less worried about the front still being the original caliper.
