Merced River Ultralight Fishing With The Ugly Stik Elite - Bass and Bluegill With Underwater Footage

Quick day trip out to Hilmar California for some multi species fishing in the Merced river. Catching big and small fish on the ugly stick elite 2 piece 7 foot ultralight rod and 4lb test line. Water was very low. I didn't get on to any decent fish until the last half of the video. This is my first fishing video so its a bit all over the place.

😎😎 Nice , I love the Merced river! Have you went up into Snelling on the Merced river? Lots more trout up there & of course more fishing rules! I’ve caught a lot of nice fish up in there. Lots of skunk days too! Recently caught a 5+lbs sucker(beautiful fish untill you see it’s funion sucker mouth),huge pike minnows ,& several nice trout over 2lbs(lots of smaller ones too!) In the past I’ve caught huge stripers & a my PB 14+lbs Steelhead … The river closes @ the end of October! ✌️🤟🤙

Ya I’ve fished up higher on the Merced a bit. I’ve actually found some pretty good pockets of small mouth bass higher up. These lower sections like the one in the video use to be great bass fishing 8-10 years ago when it wasn’t uncommon to catch multiple 2-3 pound bass in the same day. Drought and pollution have really downgraded the quality of fish the lower you go.

That kind of birds nest with what looks like 3 lines coming off the reel is often due to overspooling the line. For example, if a reel is rated for 125 yards of 4 lb mono, you don't want all 125 yards. Go 20% under, and you will see less spinning reel issues. It can also be caused by line memory or a loose line being reeled in, but it is mostly due to overspool.

Hey great video pretty fish all day that’s great. Try the Penn Pursuit 3 reel on that setup forty bucks and its got the same high performance drag as their top model reel the HT-100 drag system. Best value out IMO. As far as line twist and memory like I saw you were having in the vlog be sure you have the line facing the same way as your reel takes line on that will minimize twist and don’t put drag type pressure on when you’re loading the spool. Throw a clean soft t-shirt or rag on the line to pin it to the carpet or grass when you’re spoiling that’s all the pressure necessary and keeps it straight. If you have a spool that’s prespooled or twisty like the one you have take off the spool and soak it in a saucepan of hot tap water, not boiling, for ten minutes this will relax the tension on the line and it will play off smooth. Love those tributaries to the Stockton Delta. Tight lines bro.

Great video Have many ugly stik ultralight spinning rods Tip: close the bill by hand and pull on the line. But there are going to be line twists no matter. Enjoyed.

We use to get some clunkers in the canal emptying into Turlock lake and the one COMMING out of Turlock lake to.

i got the 7 ft US GX2 UL combo almost 2 years ago , the rod is OK but the reel was crap . was constantly getting wind knots with 4 and 6 lb mono as well as line getting caught under the rotor/spool ! . switched over to 20 lb braid with 6 to 12 lb mono leader and now i get zero wind knots and no wrapping under the rotor/spool . i also put a 2500 size diawa reel on the rod and it made a huge difference . been thinking about trying the elite because even though the GX2 definitely catch fish it is a little bit ..... mushy ...... and who doesn't like new toys ! hahahaha . thanks for sharing your experience and take care , jeff .

These reels that come with the ugly stik combos should definitely be thrown in the garbage lol the rest of my reels were in my storage unit and I was in a hurry. Definitely would of been worth the ten minutes to go grab a decent reel and not mess with the constant knots lol

@@brayanvalderrama71 i caught fish with it . but going to a temple forks outfitters UL rod made a big difference . and dropping down to 6lb braid with that rod and still using a mono leader really made a big casting difference for me . only use 15-20lb braid on my medium and medium heavy spinners now .

Tumors on fish🤔 Lots of pollution on the lower end of river ,It passes by lots of dairy’s & farm land. Livingston has a sewer plant right next to the river( brown trout habitat 😝) & Foster farms release water up above 99 ,( if I wanted to give a person a guarantee at a nice bass )I’d take them to that canal & throw right up into the bubbles! Need a canoe or yak to get there but the homeless camp under 99 is not good for launching or boat pick up anymore. 😢 ✌️🤟🤙

It’s a crappie maxx tube. Brown with red and black flakes. It’s the bass pro brand of mini tubes. They’ve worked really well on trout as well

Use your hand to trip the bail instead of the handle, that will cut down on those bird nests.

This is in the hilmar area. You just have to look on google maps for access points. Hope that helps

@@joeypowerscaliforniaoutdoo7768 thank you for sharing ,yes that helped I always like finding new spots to take my little brother fishing, if you like bass fishing Merced River is nice for that , cressey bridge and Shaffer bridge are my go to spots , since you gave me a spot
