Mercedes 300E oil leak, top timing chain cover

Our 1989 300E had an oil leak from the top timing chain cover, the distributor needs to be removed along with the top timing chain cover to replace the gasket and re-cork the joint.

Got the same leak on my 1988 300 SE W126. Got all the parts and off to attack it with the spanners!

When reinstalling mine I found I wasn't very happy with the vertical position of the front cover , it seemed to creat a little lip at top so I squashed down using the rocker cover . I worry about the timing now or damaging the distributor

Hey. I've been watching your video countless times. I have now got a cover seal. A new crankshaft seal and a fan belt to put in while I go along. Is there anything else you recommend before I start taking everything apart?

Your sealant for one . And tools to remove the dizi cap are doctored to fit .

Mercedes shop told me that the front engine covers of 2013 C350 leaking oil. The cover of the timing chain is leaking. They ask for $1490. Is that too much to reseal?

did ya have to unbolt the valve cover?

Yes, I loosened all the bolts and just sprung it up out of the way. cheers, Paul

How did you remove the metal rotor bracket mine is stuck

Brute force and ignorance, it's only alloy, I had to replace mine as it had a crack. Good luck, Paul.

Hi, I don't have an issue with the 300E timing chain but I did check the tension and guides and found no issue with it. But your right I probably should have checked for any timing chain stretch since I had the top cover off. Cheers, Paul.
