I fixed it ! Lint, dust, dirt had collected on the inside of the cracked key. After taking it apart I used a Q tip and rubbing alcohol to clean the inside. Haven't had the problem since!

Back in 2011 the ignition module died on my 99 c230. It was about 1700 bucks from the stealership to replace. Because the steering wheel was locked the tow truck operator took off the rear wheel and used a "spinner" to spin the rear hub telling the sensor to unlock the steering wheel. It worked, not sure where one gets the spinner device, never seen one before or since, but it would be useful if the steering wheel gets locked up.

The EIS Module is going bad. EIS recognizes the right key in the ignition and removes the steering wheel lock. Its that simple.

You need TK replace the steering lock motor. The car checks the steering lock before it starts along with other check, immobiliser etc. The lock is located at the bottom of the steering shaft, little tap with a small hammer will get you out of trouble till it totally packs up and you get it replaced

Same 2011 w204.......Remove key, steering wheel height adjustment, couple movements up & down.....hear lock set......that's it.......relocate wheel height........off you go.....

My doors lock automatically when key fob goes in ignition I also found a brake pedal and emergency brake sequence that when in neutral started the car with e-brake on flat ground don't use brake pedal to start the car

Sometimes you can unplug the battery and it will help but these cars can be a problem when something's wrong with them 😂😂😂 but they are the best cars though

There is a laser inside the key fob that communicates with the ignition switch I had come across that sometimes there is debris inside the key fob blocking the laser, try open the key fob and clean it inside most of the time it fixes the issue.. there are videos of people doing this,, is a very common problem with Mercedes and the old key fob design

Works like a charm, thanks to neccesity and the brilliance of a smart man. I struggled taking out the motherboard and you don't want to mess it up. So I decided slide a sharp small knife on the other side of the white plastic away from the motherboard and turn it slightly so that there was enough space to slide the thick paper which I just folded twice. Then I took a razor and cut the remaining paper so I could close the key. So it can be done without taking the motherboard out.

Old video, but So weird man. My c280 would do the same for years. My technique was put the key in *slightly turn it while pressing the unlock button. Boom every time lol I guess I never had to worry about someone stealing my car. But It was fixed when the key fob chip went bad and a new one was ordered 🤷🏾‍♂️

I have a 1998 E300D and the key refuses to stay in the Ignition. It always starts fine...but I have to keep track of where the key is when I am driving to shut her down ! Weird !

Hows this, key wont open the car wjith the button so i use the manual key then if i pull the fuse panel next to the drivers door off and warm the elrectrics behind the dash after a minute or so it lets me turn the key and start the car. WTF im in Australia and it's a European car

I solved te same issue. My ML 350 2006 did not start (the key did not turn). 1st step: Check all the car fuses. Located in engine compartment, luggage , passenger dash. 2nd step: replace the car fuse that’s burnt. Problem solved!!! Ps: it was the 7.5 amp fuse at the passenger dash in my case)

Just had to have my C32 AMG towed home from the wash bay at the carwash cause never had an issue "EVER!" But today I turn off my car in the wash bay? Get out wash it,get back in and put key in and fucking thing wont authorize power? Wont turn? Seat and steering wheel wont automatically set to driver position,or anything? 😠 Really fucked me to cause it was a special day.. 😦 I wont get onto it but yea,really fucked my whole day and evening plans up for sho!
