If I am not mistaken, this engine has NO turbo. So having "only" 136 HP and 210 nm torque, 28 years and 371K km on it.... it performs like a charm. Old mercedes quality. Not only the engine is unbreakable, but the automatic speedgear, and all the important things on this car are eternal and reliable.

I have the same one but as 5 speed manual and 250 diesel (om605) with 113hp and 627.000km on clock. i managed to drive nearly 200kph and just stopped because at this speed my engine did 5200rpm😅

Engine and all mechanic parts are reliable af but not all important parts are eternal like u said. Rust ate W124 like crazy. I didnt see a healthy body or floor in my entire life. I know a man who had OM606 and his engine done over 1 mil km in 3 different bodies. When rust was getting bad he was buying better body with broken engine and done swap in like two days. @@jasnyjuh3540 yeah, mine is rusty too but not too bad compared to others. i try to rebuild it year by year but i‘m 19 and have many other things to do but i love my 124 and work once a week on it. i bought it on ebay with engine running issues and some others but i managed to defeat many of the problems already. the merc is mine for one year now and i drove it from june to october, then i parked it in my garage to protect it from snow and salt.

@@walnussfloh6628 Use "Mike Sanders" Anti corrosion grease: I have severeral W124 und W123 protectected with it. I made test: Steel plate coated with different waxes and greases under high humidity and sald conditions in combination with higher temperature. This combination makes corrions process faster. 1000 hours represent 20 Years of costal climate with sea salt in the air and salty road in the winter. Mike sanders, grease performed best, due to its creeping abilities, to close scratches. Even after years it is able to make a closed surface. Thats not a comercial... It has beeen tested by my, because W124 ist very good car regarding engine, gearcraft but rust cann kill hin, thats why you shout protect the underbody ans box Profiles of the car.

@@Lukmistrz in my country (Eastern Europe) it became a legend because of the V8 engine (Wolf). Bandits drove such cars in the 90s, they were feared and respected, in Europe the 124 was loved by taxi drivers, since it is very reliable and more comfortable than the 123, and the 210 is more rotten in the body, and there is no big story such cars will never be made again; more money was invested in its development than in other models in the entire history of Mercedes my favorite Om 606 and m104 motors 🙂

I have a 2003 w211 E200 cdi elegance automatic. Same hp and when I say to the cruise control do 200km/h, it does 200km/h up and down hills, no argues 😊. So my man, don‘t just say „diesel“, it‘s a mercedes.

Это были настоящие Мерседесы. Не то говно, которое делают сейчас. Ездил на w124 турбодизеле. Очень динамичная машина с самой плавной работой АКПП из всего, на чем я ездил, включая новые машины. Ускорение вжимает в спинку кресла и нет ни малейших толчков вперед или назад, только обороты мотора меняются при переключении, а ускорение сохраняется идеально ровным. На холостых старый турбодизель давал небольшую вибрацию на кузов и его было слышно. Но стоило тронуться, как он будто исчезал - пропадали вибрации и звук работы и тысяч до 2,5 его не было слышно, т.е. если не гнать, то ощущение, будто едешь на электромобиле. И это было в конце 90х годов... Недавно прокатился на новом е-классе. Машина неплохая, но это не Мерседес. Ничего общего с блистательным w124.

I had a 1991 3.0TD sedan with 108kw and later a 1995 sedan with the 3.0 100kw. Both great engines but I prefer the NA 100kw 3.0 diesel - smoother power delivery, better sound. By the way fun fact - the OM606 3.0d 100kw is the most powerful mass produced naturally aspirated diesel in terms of power per liter. Prove mo wrong.

Renault 1.9d NA is a faster 64hp only could make at any road over 190km 😂 I had clio 1.9 back in the days with 4 persons at any time make more then 190 even down to hill use to make almost 200km

@@igorsol9717 that is a bit exaggerated but yes, around 700 with stock internals for the Turbo one, the NA around 350, safely, they are slightly different, no oil cooled pistons for example, but, absolutely great engine with loads of potential.

NA 604-606 also had oil cooled piston, but with simple bottom (turbo had cooling gallery), weak point is conrods, they are thinner, than turbo ones. All MB 601-606 had oil squirters, except NA 601 2.0, 602 2.5 and 603 3.0. NA 601 2.3, 602 2.9 also had piston oil cooling

der OM606 in meinen Augen immer noch eines der besten Dieseltriebwerke die jemals beim Daimler gebaut wurde, Kraft ausreichend, Verbrauch ok, Langlebigkeit (ohne AGR) phänomenal, Sound zum niederknien! Ich hatte einmal die Möglichkeit den 124er 300D mit Schaltgetriebe zu fahren, das wäre meine Wahl!

In my childhood, I learned something that became be my guideline for life. I ask my Unkle, who used to have a Mercedes Benz W 100, We call that one the Horse Head model cause the front lights were positioned vertically one over the other. I ask him Question, what car brand is the best in the world? He answered:" There are two brands in the world, Mercedes Benz and everything else!" I pile some good examples proven through time. I have included my collection. 2x W124 E300D, 1994 and 1995, 2xML 500 W163 2003 and 2004, two W140 500SEL 1993, and 300 SD 1993 ,one W126 420SL,1989 with implanted 5l, V8 engine from W140, from 1993, I am immensely happy despite, some friends asking me, why I need so many Mercedeses? Had one of these(W124 OM606 non turbo) over a period of six years. It was wrecked at 580 000km because of rust. I drove on the german autobahn the last summer I had it, and it had a top speed of 195 km/h with a 300TD Turbo ASD Final drive with higher gearing. Great car, solid engine.

It's a little slower than it should be, could probably benefit from having the fuel filters changed. I have the 300D 12 valve (OM603), also non turbo (113 hp) and I'm pretty sure it's faster than this one.

@@user-dl1nx1mu2i тут не в автомобиле и годах выпуска дело. Во-первых это движок дизельный без турбины, плюс видно что с ним что-то не так, он должен 200 ехать с ним а здесь 180 еле набирает. А во-вторых есть бензиновые версии от 2.8 и выше, которые до сих пор себя на автобане прекрасно чувствуют и едут наравне с современными авто)

well you can tell the engine has 371k KM - topspeed was around 200/210kmh with a healthy engine. my father had the same car in wine red - lowerd, but limo with 5speed manual gearbox, AMG wheels...beautiful even with a stock exhaust the car had such a nice sound - under load it was more like a gasoline engine. really nice car - i really miss it

The ones without turbo did not have that high top speed, I had a 300d from 1993, I doubt it would much faster than 180-185, it had 113hp. Sounds slow but torque was good and when I got used to it I didn’t really miss the car I had before that was much faster but of less quality.

@@truxton1000 we had 2nd facelift version from 1996 - non turbo 136hp. and i remember clearly it went 210kmh on the dashboard. of course the dashboards back in the days weren't 100% correct but still it run around 200kmh - with a lot of space😆

@@jugobetrugo7213 Yes that was the version with 4 valves, the 2 valve engine had 113hp and I just looked it up, top speed was 190 km/h. It was the most comfortable/best quality car I have ever owned. Now cars have stiffer suspension with low profile tyres, if I could buy a brand new w124 today I wouldn’t hesitate. Due to the quality it would probably be very expensive though..

Erstaunlich langsam für 136 PS, trotzdem schönes Auto. Ich hatte mal einen Volvo 940 Kombi mit 2.3 Liter 131 PS Motor. Der war auch nicht wirklich schnell, aber gute 190 hat er geschafft. Den Vogel abgeschossen hat aber der Passat 35i B3 Variant mit 2L 16V, ebenfalls 136 PS. Der lief 220, war aber aerodynamisch deutlich ausgefeilter als die beiden hier genannten...

My 300d OM603 w124 has 113hp, and the top speed it's the same, and when I drive trough downhill, I've see 190km/h. Five speed manual with 512.000km. Regards!

Dem fehlen einige Pferde. Der hat niemals 136 PS. Entweder frisst die Automatik so viel Leistung oder der Motor hat Probleme. Mein 200D aus 1994 mit Schaltgetriebe kommt ja besser vom Fleck und erreicht Tacho 160 deutlich schneller. Finde deine Videos richtig super. Wäre vielleicht cool wenn du dem mal nachgehen könntest. Der Motor ist legendär. Der muss deutlich besser gehen , auch wenn er 377.000km runter hat.

I had om606 im the past and since 5years I have om603 turbo im the same body. It has only 11HP more than 606 but its much faster, it runs 200kph with any problem, and also acceleration is better, while fuel consumption od exactly the same. But for sure OM606 od better sounding motor.

Yes we all know the story about the 124 series, owned 2 myself. But it is bullshit that later Benz models are not reliable etc. The engines on the 210/211/212 are easily able to reach the same mileages as the 123/124 did or can do. Yes particular flaws on the bodywork of the 210 and some electric gremmlins on the 211 early models. But the 124 did had a lot of problems to the first years, not flawless at all. I think the 211 is the best bang for bucks E-class so far: comfy, still modern safety standards, big, jewels of engines. Take a 2007/2008 model or go for a 212 but still expensive in the higher engine range.

Can someone explain to me please. Why does this car has a green sticker for entering the low emission zone. But as far i know the green sticker mean if your car has at least euro 4 or higher but this can definitely not. So probably its should be like a yellow sticker or red. 1 injector is opening too early. You can hear it. Will cost a couple of hp. But they are beautiful cars. Had a W124 250d, a W124 300TD, a W124 E500 Limited, i love them. 4 speed Automatic is costing hp, manual is better. But who cares, best car ever made.

GPS speed would be interesting. My W123 280E showed 200 km/h on the speedo with 175 on the gps.

Naja für 136 PS sind 180 lt Tacho nicht gerade der Kracher. Der 240 D meines Dads ein 123er mit 72 PS ging flott auf etwas über Tacho 160, die man auch als Dauertempo fahren konnte. Waren natürlich nur echte 150, aber mit 72 PS. Mein Saab 9000 mit 163 PS und knapp 500 k kilometern lief die 220, die in den Papieren standen. Von echten 136 PS würde ich also im 124 eigentlich mindestens echte 190 , wenn nicht mehr , erwarten....die Werksangaben liegen wohl bei 200, das wären dann auf dem Tacho mindestens 210 - 220 😮😮😂
