This is not the latest command system of mercedes. You should had tested the one with the touchpad...

@Carbuyer Unfair! you at carbuyer do this kind of stuff all the time! You can´t compare the A/CLA/GLA with the 3 series and the Q7. It´s a very unprofessional thing to do. I love your reviews however you like a journalist have to impartial so compare a (in my country) 120 000 € to a 35 000 €. If wanted to use the Q7 (by the way excellent car) you should compare it with S Class or the GLE or CLS. And on Bmw you should use the 7 Series or X5/6. And the better one is kind of a tie between the new touch pad on the 7 Series and the brightness of the HD double display on the S class. I tested and it was great. My C Class has the Comand Online (the upgrade version of the standard C class) and it´s waaaay better than that thing that you tested. Congrats on your Work, but sometimes it seems like you don´t take the consumer advise seriously. Cheers!

Why didn't you all use the Command from the C/S class

There are 4 Levels to Mercedes Comand. looking at the GLA's instead of the top version in the C Class or S or GLE when you're comparing a 3 Series and Q7 is not faiR

Very strange test. As the e.g. C-class DOES have Carplay, the screen is bigger, the touchpad is easier to use than the knob. Not comparing apples with apples in these tests.

She keeps seeming to lower the score because it 'is abit annoying' to scroll through all the letters. I guess she didn't realise you can actually type in the letters using the number pad, as if you were using an old mobile phone. Doesn't seem fair to lower the score for something that is easily avoidable.

you should do a comparison of the voice command, merc owns audi's mmi system. had to drive an audi while my car was in for maintenance. total nightmare imo. i pushed the voice button and told it where to go, all in one phrase. after a solid 5 sec delay it told me to say the town.. then choose a number in the list. then the street, then..(all with huge wait times between commands). you get the point. mercedes is way better at this.also, why didn't you review the touchpad one?

hi, you testing an old system from mercedes, you have to test the newes system with touch pad and more in the new c class, that was bad from you.

Thing that really gets me us why they can just stick an iPad or a really good Android tablet into it!!! Or at least use the fluid multi-touch screen. I have seen tablets under 100£ having excellent multi-touch input screens!!

Bit disappointing to see such low score. Even tho I love Merc, think they deserve such low score and should really up their system to current premium standards

The. Navigation on Mercedes is terrible, I had the s class for a month and I only used the navigation a couple of times and it always said the wrong turning point to the actual display

This comparison is unfair: BMW 3-Series used and Audi Q7. Mercedes higher models have better systems with touchpad technology and a different layout. Such as the Mercedes c-class / e-class. Absolute rubbish!!

Very biased! Shouldn't have done it with the GLA, obviously not the best system out there. You should've done it with a c class or e clss (that would've been a lot better).

There's a point about the old scroll system vs the new touch system from Mercedes. New system would've scored a little bit more (probably low 4s) but there really should be a category for appearance, and that would've dragged the score lower. Anyways, out of the 3 german giants, even the new Mercedes system it is still clearly the worst (old system by far the worse) out of the 3. Screen brand new looks outdated already. I love everythign about the Mercedes C63s coupe, but haven't pulled the trigger yet because of the screen, it ruins the feel of the car.

Carbuyer...answer the questions people asked below as to why the system from the C or S Class wasn't used. People aren't as stupid and gullible as you seem to think. The system you tested was the older COMMAND system. How about test their newest system like the one on the C Class with a touch pad, better connectivity, more features, bigger and higher resolution screen with better graphics etc etc. Seriously Carbuyer this was kind of silly on your part. Otherwise why didn't you test both...Mercedes COMMAND in this iteration (like on the GLA) and COMMAND in the newer iteration (like on the C Class). This will show how much better the newer system is and how the newer AND older systems compare to the competition. Only having the older more basic version of their COMMAND system does obviously not result in a fair test. Also the C Class is one of their best selling models so not testing the COMMAND system in that was terribly overlooked on your part.

Yes, and they charge you an arm and a leg a short time later, to keep using 'Tom Tom' when your theoretical subscription runs out. Ignoring the fact you've probably spent £1500 speccing up your car instead of buying a standalone £100 job with free updates for life.

Should have used a real Mercedes

The system works pretty good, very functional, no lag, great map, but what idiot decided that it should look like an I-pad someone's 9 year old glued to the dashboard?! Seriously! Look at how elegant Audi's system is. BMW's 5-series navigation fits perfectly in the dashboard. And Mercedes did this... I also like the knob design and the touch pad higher end Mercedes' have. Just don't try writing with it. It's a waste of time. Either select letters using the knob, or use voice activation. One thing that has improved with the Comand system is voice activation. It used to be a shouting match between you and your Mercedes, but now the digital woman in the dashboard actually understands you and does what you want. Also what you are saying about the audio system is nonsense! The interior rattles, cause it's a silly baby-crossover! Try the system in a C-class, E, CLS... Any of the higher end models. The audio system is superb! With and without bass!

What an awful review! So BMW's iDrive with its swivel wheel is neigh on perfect, but the same navigation wheel on the Merc is "a little annoying" as you have to scroll through letters? Same with the BMW!
