*I top up the fluid in the video. Please note that this is not a "how to video" As I have made certain assumptions about the operation of the system and the procedure. Always follow your manufactures instructions.*
The video shows the location of the automatic boot / Tailgate pump on a Mercedes GL 420CDI 2007 (X164). My tailgate would not open work when parked on a slope. I checked the pumps hydraulic fluid and it was low.
The fluid I used is Aeroshell 41 and was approximately £15 from Amazon UK. I found a Mercedes document that appeared to say Aeroshell 41 was compatible for MB 342.0 hydraulic fluid, which I believe is the correct fluid for my vehicle.. I contacted my local Mercedes dealership for the genuine fluid and was advised Mercedes only supply 20 litre cans now.
The document I found gave these instructions for checking the fluid levels:
"Up to model year 2008: Perform test in installation position. Observe marking (cross) at bottom edge of reservoir.
As of model year 2009: Perform test in the upright position. Observe the marking (circle) at the top edge of reservoir."
Hope that helps :)
