My BMW e39 had DISA Valve which was an issue to avoid. It's quite ridiculous that Mercedes engineers such great machines but utilizes some of the most flimsy materials. I bought a 07 c230. Absolute dream. Took it in to get a repair and found the main flip was broken just as show in this video. The entire manifold was replaced costing me over $1300. Quite a bit for a 20 yr old college student. It's fixed now and probably going to last some years, but seriously wished I had known this part so it could've saved me a ton.

This is a much better design than the pieces I see on Ebay. I recently pulled the intake on a 2006 R350 and the I had to modify the rods and remove the balls on the ends. It made me nervous because there is far too many plastic pieces that can break, This design with the receiver cups is perfect. I charge $400 to do this repair on my customers cars. That is a beautiful piece. I would buy a few from you.

There is another one of these intake flaps made by another company and it is made out of aluminum as well but the piece has 30° less angle on that actuator rod area. I heard it's a better fix.

Intake carbon buildup is the original cause. Always clean the carbon from the intake as well.

Nice vid. Can you change this without removing the entire manifold? Maybe take out the 2ndary air pump?

How about the plastic part (swirl flaps) inside the metal intake? Those are surely gummed up from the oil fume and hence why the triangle part broke in the first place due to stress and friction from the gummed up part inside the intake. The triangle part you are making does not fix this, it just ignore the intake being gummed up. Wish Mercedes focus on eliminating the problem (gummed up plastic swirl parts). If you trace where the oil fume from where it came from, you will find it came from the throttle body/ butterfly, then the plastic elbow, then a port with a plastic tube, and yes.. from the pcv cover and the oil drip pan, to the ENGINE crankcase (the source of all the oil). Yes, this is the source of the problem. These parts has failed to screen out enough oil. If you are fixing this problem with the intake, you will find oil streaks/gummy all along this path. This needs to be clean out and have the pvc cover/ oil drip pan replace. The other resolution is install an oil catch can to further filter out the oil fume, unless you there is a better idea.

Guys, any thoughts about what would be the condition of the flaps themselves from inside the manifold? Many mechanics told me that the flaps might be damaged from inside or even molten or stuck from the heat... Could that be true? Another question is, what about all those plastic rods, aren't they also too weak to keep operating for such long periods without breaking?

I have '06 C230 & my left side valve is broken, the round black plastic piece is gone and engine has bad vacuum leak, according to my A-1 mechanic. I looked today, it is a big hole there you can stick your finger inside. I don't want to pay $900 for whole new intake manifold replacement job. But it looks like I have no choice. Got any ideas? I'm experiencing all those issues relative to the topic of your discussion, however, i started my car and attempted to further diagnose my issue, I was able to carefully get in between the hoses and wiring with my needle nose pliers to manipulate the function of the external actuator but nothing happened. The car didn't sputter nor shut off and the idle stayed the same. Is this normal?????
