Mercedes ML Headlight Disassembly - Black Out Housings or Custom Lights! - W164 ML63

In this video I take apart my ML's headlight housings so that I can repaint the headlight internals, as well as repair a leveling rod, and replace the projector lenses themselves. This may seem kinda scary at first, but as long as you give yourself enough time it really isn't that bad. It's also important to make sure the paint on your housings fully cure before resealing them with the lenses.

As for spray paint, I just used rustoleum 2x primer+paint that I picked up at home depot, nothing special!

A good video but you should have showed more of your sanding and spraying of the inside of the light.

If you go buy an $20 dollar headlights restoration kit from Auto Zone! And do all the steps and put to layers of protection! It will last a long time! Did that to my ML350 and they still going 💪🏽

these headlights were restored a long time ago with some proper wet sanding/compounding/polishing and are now covered in protection film so there’s no need for anything else really. Might ceramic coat the PPF though. Typically a normal auto plastic polish with a wax or ceramic coating will work better than those “headlight restore” kits at the stores, but thanks for the tip!

@@SamAbraham That’s great PPF! Got that done to our GLC! Does the PPF starts to yellow up over time?

@@ManwantSinghMultani So far no but it’s only been a couple years, I think it would start to yellow if at all after around 5-6 years if left in the sunlight. The whole front end of the car, bumper/hood/fenders are covered on the ML63 and C63 and no issues so far

Hello guy ! Nice video. I have a question maybe you can help me... I have a problem with my headlight (xenon D2S original), when I start the engine, the right xenon bulb is staying down (not going up with the same level like on the left headlight). As I see that you disassembly the headlight and before buy a new one, maybe you know what I need to check to repare it ??? Thank you !

Unfortunately for my specific headlights you couldn't buy a replacement "headlight adjuster," which is why I just tried to fix mine. For my BMW E39 5 series (also D2S), my headlights also have broken headlight adjusters, but you can find the parts to replace online. I'm not sure what car you have, but it sounds like you need new headlight adjusters. Its likely not the motor that is broken, but the plastic piece that connects the xenon housing to the motor. Hope this helps!

@@SamAbraham Thanks man! SO true on the v8. Things a beast. Ill hit you up when i get mine finished. I think I'm going to be adding LED accents for the turn signals as well.

@@Madskillzpb Nice! One thing i’ve come across is that these cars realllly don’t like LEDs unless they’re oem... even if you get some canbus friendly LEDs they’ll just flicker a ton. Not easy to code out either so keep that in mind
